1st Australian Light Horse Regiment, AIF, 11th Reinforcements - Mashobra Group, embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board HMAT A47 Mashobra 4 October 1915

The HMAT A47 Mashobra weighed 8,174 tons with an average cruise speed of 12.5 knots or 23.15 kmph. It was owned by the British India SN Co Ltd, London, and leased by the Commonwealth until 21 December 1916. The Mashobra was torpedoed and sunk in the Mediterranean, 15 April 1917.

The ensuing individual soldier's embarkation information contains the following details:

1377 Private Geoffrey ASIMUS, a 20 year old Grazier from Arawatta via Inverell, New South Wales. He enlisted on 5 August 1915; and at the conclusion of the war was Returned to Australia, 2 June 1919.

1421 Private Douglas Stuart ATCHISON, a 21 year old Labourer from. He enlisted on 3 August 1915; and at the conclusion of the war was Returned to Australia, 6 July 1919.

 

1380 Private Percy Edward BADGER, a 23 year old Carter from Woollahra, Sydney, New South Wales. He enlisted on 27 July 1915; and at the conclusion of the war was Returned to Australia, 3 July 1919.

1423 Private Alexander Norman BARTHOLOMEW, a 24 year old Farmer from 24 Bradley's Head Road, Mosman, New South Wales. He enlisted on 20 July 1915; and at the conclusion of the war was Returned to Australia, 5 April 1919.

1385 Private Louis Augustus BELL, a 22 year old Farmer from Gundagai, New South Wales. He enlisted on 16 August 1915; and subsequently was Killed in Action, 26 October 1917.

1426 Private Charles BUFFREY, a 33 year old Wharfie from Twynam Street, Narrandera, New South Wales. He enlisted on 1 August 1915; and at the conclusion of the war was Returned to Australia, 22 January 1917.

1386 Private Francis Harold BURGESS, an 18 year old Blacksmith from Bombala, New South Wales. He enlisted on 3 August 1915; and at the conclusion of the war was Returned to Australia, 8 April 1919.

1383 Private Bryan Lambert BURKE, a 21 year old Overseer from Corryong, Victoria. He enlisted on 5 August 1915; and at the conclusion of the war was Returned to Australia, 13 March 1919.

1401 Private Harold Boston KIRKBY, an 18 year old Stockman from Moree, New South Wales. He enlisted on 18 July 1915; and at the conclusion of the war was Returned to Australia, 2 March 1919.

 

1404 Private Claude MASKEY, a 19 year old Station hand from St George, Queensland. He enlisted on 27 July 1915; and subsequently Died of Wounds, 24 September 1917.

1453 Private William James McALISTER, a 19 year old Carman from Jacob Street, Bankstown, New South Wales. He enlisted on 29 July 1915; and at the conclusion of the war was Returned to Australia, 13 March 1919.

1452 Private William Olegg McINTOSH, a 24 year old Shop worker from 25 Mcdougall Street, Milson's Point, New South Wales. He enlisted on 4 August 1915; and at the conclusion of the war was Returned to Australia, 12 June 1919.

1491 Private Walter Provis McMULLIN, a 22 year old Labourer from Ashford, Inverell, New South Wales. He enlisted on 7 August 1915; and subsequently Died of Wounds, 6 August 1917.

1403 Private Lee McNAMARA, a 23 year old Farmer from Grenfell, New South Wales. He enlisted on 3 August 1915; and at the conclusion of the war was Returned to Australia, 13 April 1919.

1487 Private George Wilfred MITCHELL, a 20 year old Farmer from Windsor, New South Wales. He enlisted on 7 August 1915; and at the conclusion of the war was Returned to Australia, 8 April 1919.

1451 Bugler Harold Jack MORRIS, an 18 year old Clerk from 23 Tusculum Street, Potts Point, New South Wales. He enlisted on 31 August 1915 16 June 1919; and at the conclusion of the war was Returned to Australia, 22-1-20.

1402 Private John James MURPHY, a 40 year old Carpenter from Tumbarumba, New South Wales. He enlisted on 23 July 1915; and at the conclusion of the war was Returned to Australia, 13 March 1919.

 

1406 Private Kenrick OAKES, a 25 year old Farmer from Granville, New South Wales. He enlisted on 28 July 1915; and at the conclusion of the war was Returned to Australia, 25 January 1919.

1484 Private Daniel O'CONNELL, a 39 year old Mining Engineer from 818 Drummond Street, North Carlton, Victoria. He enlisted on 14 July 1915; and was Returned to Australia, 28 February 1916.

1455 Private Michael Joseph O'CONNOR, a 23 year old Dairyman from Hill View, Murrumburrah, New South Wales. He enlisted on 2 May 1915; and at the conclusion of the war was Returned to Australia, 25 March 1919.

1454 Private Edward Joseph Patrick O'MEARA, a 22 year old Pipe layer from 'Tipperary', Rocky Point Road, Kogarah, New South Wales. He enlisted on 1 August 1915; and at the conclusion of the war was Returned to Australia, 12 June 1919.

1405 Private George Vincent O'ROURKE, a 21 year old Labourer from 7 Llewellyn Street, Balmain, New South Wales. He enlisted on 3 August 1915; and was Discharged in Britain 17 December 1917 .

1407 Private Ernest O'TOOLE, a 25 year old Labourer from Nambucca Heads, New South Wales. He enlisted on 2 August 1915; and at the conclusion of the war was Returned to Australia, 5 April 1919.

 

1457 Private Edward PARKIN, a 19 year old Carpenter from 'Birdholm', Avoca Street, Randwick, New South Wales. He enlisted on 2 August 1915; and at the conclusion of the war was Returned to Australia, 27 April 1919.

1408 Private Daniel Charles PENFOLD, a 36 year old Manager from Barrington, Gloucester, New South Wales. He enlisted on 2 August 1915; and at the conclusion of the war was Returned to Australia, 5 April 1919.

1409 Private George Arthur RAVENSWOOD, a 26 year old Labourer from c/o J J Graham, Wee Waa, New South Wales. He enlisted on 29 July 1915; and at the conclusion of the war was Returned to Australia, 5 April 1919.

1410 Private Harold Arthur Foxton ROBERTSON, a 23 year old Stock agent from Unwin Road, Waitara, New South Wales. He enlisted on 5 August 1915; and at the conclusion of the war was Returned to Australia, 31 March 1919.

1486 Private Stephen ROBERTSON, a 26 year old Butcher from 14 Bent Street, North Sydney, New South Wales. He enlisted on 9 August 1915; and was Returned to Australia, 20 November 1916.
