HMAT A18 Wiltshire

 

The General Service Reinforcements, 1st GSR, Queensland, embarked from Sydney, New South Wales, on board the HMAT A18 Wiltshire 10 June 1918.

The HMAT A18 Wiltshire weighed 10,390 tons with an average cruise speed of 13.5 knots or 25.00 kmph. It was owned by the Commonwealth & Dominion Line Ltd, London, and leased by the Commonwealth until 2 October 1917.

The ensuing individual soldier's embarkation information contains the following details:

Rank on embarkation;

Full name of the soldier

Declared age of the soldier;

The last occupation held;

The last address as a civilian;

Enlistment Date; and,

Fate.

50246 Private Willie ALLEN, a 33 year old Labourer from Darwin Northern Territory. He enlisted on 10 December 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 11th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 20 July 1919.

50270 Private Charles ALLEY, an 18 year old Stockman from Charters Towers. He enlisted on 20 December 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 11th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 15 May 1919.

 

50766 Private James Robert BLACK, a 19 year old Clerk from Mt Morgan, Queensland. He enlisted on 14 December 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 5th Light Horse Machine Gun Squadron; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 22 September 1919.

50271 Private Patrick BRADY, a 19 year old Stockman from Bluff Downs Stn via Charters Towers, Queensland. He enlisted on 14 February 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 11th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 20 July 1919.

50247 Private Ulick BURKE, a 19 year old Farmer from Pilton via Clifton, Queensland. He enlisted on 14 January 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 2nd Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 13 March 1919.

50773 Private Macrossin BURNS, a 19 year old Horse breaker from Longreach, Queensland. He enlisted on 18 April 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the Australian Army Supply Corps Details; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 25 September 1919.

 

50248 Private Glen COMBARNGO, a 22 year old Stockman from Mission Station Taroom, Queensland. He enlisted on 12 January 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 2nd Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 13 March 1919.

 

50251 Private Charles Ross EDEN, a 19 year old Jackeroo from Brisbane, Queensland. He enlisted on 6 January 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 11th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 20 July 1919.

50249 Private Percy William ESSEX, a 29 year old Tram Driver from Brisbane, Queensland. He enlisted on 7 January 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 2nd Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 13 March 1919.

 

50252 Private James Thomas FLANAGAN, a 19 year old Butcher from Lismore, New South Wales. He enlisted on 28 December 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 2nd Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 13 March 1919.

50273 Private Douglas Martin FRASER, a 29 year old Pastoralist from Brisbane, Queensland. He enlisted on 7 March 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 5th Light Horse Regiment; and subsequently was Discharged in Egypt 21 March 1919.

 

50253 Private Robert Henry GERAGHTY, an 18 year old Farmer from Toowoomba, Queensland. He enlisted on 6 December 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 11th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 20 July 1919.

 

50255 Private Victor William HARRINGTON, an 18 year old Veterinary Surgeon Assistant from Toowoomba, Queensland. He enlisted on 10 December 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 3rd Light Horse Machine Gun Squadron; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 17 July 1919.

50256 Private Alfred William HOLLINGSBEE, a 19 year old Tram Conductor from Brisbane, Queensland. He enlisted on 25 June 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 2nd Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 13 March 1919.

50275 Private Hunter Maitland HOY, a 29 year old Stockman from Rockhampton, Queensland. He enlisted on 3 February 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 5th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 20 July 1919.

 

50754 Private Ernest Frederick JUILLERAT, a 19 year old Labourer from Murphy's Creek, Queensland. He enlisted on 2 April 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the AIF Headquarters; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 23 July 1919.

 

50275 Private George Shelton LAMBERT, an 18 year old Jackeroo from Indooroopilly, Queensland. He enlisted on 8 January 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 11th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 20 July 1919.

50276 Private John Horner LEWIS, a 27 year old Labourer from Cunnamulla, Queensland. He enlisted on 12 April 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 11th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 20 July 1919.

 

50281 Private Arthur Murray McCLURE, a 22 year old Wool classer from Brisbane, Queensland. He enlisted on 29 April 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the Australian Pay Corps, AIF Headquarters; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 16 March 1919.

50258 Private William Price MORRIS, a 35 year old Contractor from Taroom, Queensland. He enlisted on 27 December 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 11th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 20 July 1919.

 

50260 Acting Corporal Charles Joseph NANTES, a 19 year old Grazier from Charleville, Queensland. He enlisted on 30 January 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 36th Company Australian Army Supply Corps, Australian Mounted Division Train; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 26 July 1919.

 

50261 Private Vincent Charles PEOPLES, an 18 year old Dairy farmer from South Gundurimba, New South Wales. He enlisted on 10 December 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 2nd Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 13 March 1919.

 

50262 Private Joseph Vincent QUINLAN, a 21 year old Pastoral student from Yeerongpilly, Queensland. He enlisted on 11 January 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the AIF Headquarters; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 2 August 1919.

 

50264 Private Reginald David REID, an 18 year old Farmer from Thanes Creek via Warwick, Queensland. He enlisted on 12 October 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 2nd Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 13 March 1919.

50278 Private Harry ROBERTS, a 30 year old Stockman from Red Hill, Queensland. He enlisted on 22 January 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 5th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 28 June 1919.

 

R797 Private James Patterson SKENE, a 23 year old Station hand from Bulimba, Queensland. He enlisted on 3 February 1915. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 11th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 20 July 1919.

50268 Private Ernest Gilbert SMITH, a 24 year old Motorman from Bayswater, Queensland. He enlisted on 10 December 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 11th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 20 July 1919.

50280 Private Alexander STANLEY, a 21 year old Drover from Wongongra Station via Chinchilla, Queensland. He enlisted on 25 February 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 11th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 20 July 1919.

50266 Private Augustus William STEPHAN, a 25 year old Bus driver from North Ipswich, Queensland. He enlisted on 11 December 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 5th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 28 June 1919.

50267 Private Herman William Frederick STEPHAN, a 23 year old Labourer from North Ipswich, Queensland. He enlisted on 2 January 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 5th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 28 June 1919.

 

50274 Private Callaghan Baird WALSH, a 19 year old Student from Cairns, Queensland. He enlisted on 12 December 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 5th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 4 March 1919.

50269 Private George Meredith WILSON-GREEN, a 21 year old Farmhand from Oakey, Queensland. He enlisted on 17 December 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 2nd Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 13 March 1919.
