HMAT A18 Wiltshire

 

The General Service Reinforcements, 2nd GSR, Queensland, embarked from Sydney, New South Wales, on board the HMAT A18 Wiltshire 10 June 1918.

The HMAT A18 Wiltshire weighed 10,390 tons with an average cruise speed of 13.5 knots or 25.00 kmph. It was owned by the Commonwealth & Dominion Line Ltd, London, and leased by the Commonwealth until 2 October 1917.

The ensuing individual soldier's embarkation information contains the following details:

Rank on embarkation;

Full name of the soldier

Declared age of the soldier;

The last occupation held;

The last address as a civilian;

Enlistment Date; and,

Fate.

52972 Private William Henry ALLEN, a 21 year old Engine driver from Hill View via Allora, Queensland. He enlisted on 19 December 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 41st Infantry Battalion; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 23 July 1919.

52632 Sapper John ASKEW, a 20 year old Motor Driver from Casino, New South Wales. He enlisted on 12 April 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the "D" Field Troop & Bridge Train; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 26 January 1919.

 

52664 Private Philip Morris BENJAMIN, an 18 year old Chemist's Assistant from Townsville, Queensland. He enlisted on 9 May 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 11th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 20 July 1919.

52663 Private Harold Albert BRADSTREET, a 22 year old Journalist from Dutton Park, Queensland. He enlisted on 23 March 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the Australian Pay Corps AIF Headquarters; and subsequently was Discharged in Egypt 2 May 1919.

52633 Private Edward Stanley Lietch BROWN, a 19 year old Fitter from Toowoomba, Queensland. He enlisted on 10 May 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 1st Light Horse Field Squadron Engineers; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 16 March 1919.

52635 Private William Stanley BROWN, a 22 year old Labourer from Brisbane, Queensland. He enlisted on 20 May 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 2nd Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 18 February 1919.

52634 Private Claude BRUCE, a 19 year old Wood Cutter from Brisbane, Queensland. He enlisted on 11 May 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 2nd Light Horse Machine Gun Squadron; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 28 June 1919.

 

52637 Private Percy Seymour CARBERY, a 21 year old Labourer from Brisbane, Queensland. He enlisted on 26 March 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 11th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 20 July 1919.

52639 Sapper Charles Goodman CHAPMAN, a 19 year old Horse Breaker from Brisbane, Queensland. He enlisted on 26 March 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 2nd Light Horse Field Ambulance; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 3 July 1919.

52638 Private John Reginald CLIFT, a 26 year old Labourer from Brisbane, Queensland. He enlisted on 29 April 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 2nd Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 13 March 1919.

52640 Private Bert COX, an 18 year old Farmer from Murwillumbah, New South Wales. He enlisted on 20 April 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 2nd Light Horse Machine Gun Squadron; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 28 June 1919.

 

52641 Private Albert Richard Ferdian DIETZ, an 18 year old Labourer from Toowoomba, Queensland. He enlisted on 18 May 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 2nd Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 28 January 1919.

 

52631 Private Philip McIlwraith FORREST, a 34 year old Grazier from Brisbane, Queensland. He enlisted on 6 February 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 11th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 20 July 1919.

 

52642 Private James GIBSON, a 21 year old Labourer from Brisbane, Queensland. He enlisted on 14 May 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 1st Light Horse Machine Gun Squadron; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 15 May 1919.

 

52662 Private William Walter HEAD, an 18 year old Fitter from Toowoomba, Queensland. He enlisted on 10 April 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 2nd Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 13 March 1919.

52646 Private John HEDGES, a 33 year old Waterside Worker from Townsville, Queensland. He enlisted on 27 April 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 1st Light Horse Signal Squadron; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 2 April 1919.

52645 Private Henry Norman HENRICKSON, a 21 year old Station Hand from Rockhampton, Queensland. He enlisted on 27 April 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 5th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 28 May 1919.

52644 Private Victor Albert HOFFMANN, an 18 year old Labourer from Miles, Queensland. He enlisted on 6 April 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 11th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 20 July 1919.

52647 Sapper William Henry Hilless HOLMES, a 19 year old Fitter from Toowoomba, Queensland. He enlisted on 10 April 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the "D" Field Troop & Bridge Train; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 3 July 1919.

52643 Private John Edward HUMPHRYS, a 19 year old Labourer from Townsville, Queensland. He enlisted on 18 February 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 2nd Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 13 March 1919.

 

52648 Private Robert Thomas IRELAND, a 20 year old Dairy farmer from Eumundi, Queensland. He enlisted on 16 April 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 11th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 20 July 1919.

 

52649 Private John Eric LEATHER, a 25 year old Stockman from Fern Trees, Queensland. He enlisted on 14 May 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 11th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 20 July 1919.

 

53058 Private Frank MANNING, a 24 year old Farmer from South Ballina, New South Wales. He enlisted on 5 January 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 41st Infantry Battalion; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 31 March 1919.

52652 Private James George McCANN, a 20 year old Shop keeper from Petrie Terrace Brisbane, Queensland. He enlisted on 9 May 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the "D" Field Troop & Bridge Train; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 3 July 1919.

52653 Private James Patrick McKEON, a 21 year old Mail driver from Dalby, Queensland. He enlisted on 5 April 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 1st Light Horse Machine Gun Squadron; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 16 May 1919.

52650 Acting Corporal John MUNT, a 36 year old Labourer from Maryborough, Queensland. He enlisted on 15 February 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 11th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 14 March 1919.

 

52654 Private Alfred Henry NOWLAN, a 40 year old Harness maker from West Ipswich, Queensland. He enlisted on 26 April 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 1st Light Horse Field Squadron Engineers; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 3 July 1919.

 

52655 Private Ivan Lender Eric OLSEN, an 18 year old Plumber from Chelmer via Brisbane, Queensland. He enlisted on 14 May 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 5th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 28 June 1919.

 

52656 Private Henry Edwin PIDCOCK, a 22 year old Cattle dealer from Tatham, New South Wales. He enlisted on 15 May 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 2nd Light Horse Machine Gun Squadron; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 28 June 1919.

53083 Driver Henry Albert PRESTIDGE, a 26 year old Labourer from Miriam Vale, Queensland. He enlisted on 31 December 1914. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 41st Infantry Battalion; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 23 July 1919.

 

52658 Private Benjamin Von SENDEN, a 28 year old Labourer from South Brisbane, Queensland. He enlisted on 30 April 1916. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 11th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 20 July 1919.

 

Second Lieutenant John Reginald Halloran WALKER, a 23 year old Civil Servant from Ayr, Queensland. He enlisted on 3 April 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 41st Infantry Battalion; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 3 July 1919.

52661 Private George WARD, a 21 year old Cleaner from Ipswich, Queensland. He enlisted on 22 April 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 3rd Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 29 April 1919.

52660 Private Lionel Simons WHEREAT, a 36 year old Tanner from Red Hill, Queensland. He enlisted on 10 May 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 2nd Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 4 March 1919.

53110 Private William James WOODWARD, a 20 year old Labourer from Grantham, Queensland. He enlisted on 26 February 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 12th Field Artillery Brigade; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 12 July 1919.
