HMAT A15 Port Sydney

 

The General Service Reinforcements, 4th GSR, Victoria, embarked from Sydney, New South Wales, on board the HMAT A15 Port Sydney 17 August 1918.

The HMAT A15 Star of England, later renamed Port Sydney, weighed 9,136 tons with an average cruise speed of 13.5 knots or 25.00 kmph. It was owned by the Commonwealth & Dominion Line Ltd, London, and leased by the Commonwealth until 22 September 1917.

The ensuing individual soldier's embarkation information contains the following details:

Rank on embarkation;

Full name of the soldier

Declared age of the soldier;

The last occupation held;

The last address as a civilian;

Enlistment Date; and,

Fate.

57415 Private John Clive ACKERS, a 23 year old Clerk from Melbourne, Victoria. He enlisted on 19 November 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 4th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 15 June 1919.

57416 Private John Percy ALLAN, a 19 year old Butcher from Melbourne, Victoria. He enlisted on 23 April 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 2nd Light Horse Field Ambulance; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 27 June 1919.

57417 Private William John Hutchison ALLAN, a 24 year old Labourer from Sydney, New South Wales. He enlisted on 2 April 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 1st Light Horse Signal Squadron; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 3 July 1919.

57418 Private Claude ANDREWS, a 27 year old Jockey from Shepparton, Victoria. He enlisted on 19 March 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 8th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 3 July 1919.

57411 Sergeant William Reston ARKLAY, a 37 year old Painter from Melbourne, Victoria. He enlisted on 26 July 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 1st Light Horse Field Squadron Engineers; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 4 March 1919.

 

57419 Private Frederick BETTS, a 29 year old Blacksmith from Melbourne, Victoria. He enlisted on 4 February 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 4th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 15 June 1919.

57420 Private George Raymond Wallice BLACKLEY, a 20 year old Butcher from Camperdown, Victoria. He enlisted on 30 April 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 4th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 29 April 1919.

57421 Private Wilfred Leslie BLACKLEY, a 22 year old Tram conductor from Weerite, Victoria. He enlisted on 18 April 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 4th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 15 June 1919.

 

57422 Private Norman Louis CAMPBELL, an 18 year old Labourer from Warragul, Victoria. He enlisted on 2 April 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 4th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 15 June 1919.

57423 Private Victor CASEY, an 18 year old Farmer from Yannathan via Kooweerup, Victoria. He enlisted on 3 January 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 4th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 17 July 1919.

54871 Private Edward COLLINS, a 21 year old Driver from Seymour, Victoria. He enlisted on 11 January 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 59th Infantry Battalion; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 6 October 1919.

57424 Private Oriel William Elizah CONN, an 18 year old Farm Labourer from Footscray, Victoria. He enlisted on 7 March 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 4th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 15 June 1919.

57426 Private William Thomas CUSHEN, an 18 year old Farm Labourer from St Kilda, Victoria. He enlisted on 11 April 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 4th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 15 June 1919.

 

57473 Private Redvers Oliver DAVIDSON, an 18 year old Student from St Arnaud, Victoria. He enlisted on 22 March 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 2nd Light Horse Machine Gun Squadron; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 28 June 1919.

57428 Private Edward Matthew DAW, a 21 year old Butcher from Ballarat East, Victoria. He enlisted on 2 March 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 4th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 15 June 1919.

57429 Private John Thomas DORAN, a 29 year old Labourer from Leongatha, Victoria. He enlisted on 1 May 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 2nd Light Horse Field Ambulance; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 3 July 1919.

 

57430 Private Clement Havelock Buller FROST, an 18 year old Student from Maryborough, Victoria. He enlisted on 21 March 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 4th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 15 June 1919.

 

57431 Private Leslie James GERRY, a 20 year old Labourer from Melbourne, Victoria. He enlisted on 14 May 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 4th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 15 June 1919.

57414 Private Harold Thomas GLANVILLE, a 39 year old Carpenter from Hobart, Tasmania. He enlisted on 9 November 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 3rd Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 15 May 1919.

 

57433 Private Henry Arthur HARKNESS, a 28 year old Labourer from Terang, Victoria. He enlisted on 10 April 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the Australian Provost Corps; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 28 June 1919.

57434 Private James HARRISON, a 33 year old Farmer from Footscray, Victoria. He enlisted on 24 November 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 4th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 15 June 1919.

57435 Private Edgar Arthur HOLTHAM, an 18 year old Labourer from Geelong, Victoria. He enlisted on 26 April 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 2nd Light Horse Machine Gun Squadron; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 27 June 1919.

 

57436 Private Numa Ferdinand JOUBERT, an 18 year old Clerk from East Malvern, Victoria. He enlisted on 28 January 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 4th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 15 June 1919.

 

57412 Acting Sergeant John Walter KEEBLE, a 38 year old Farmer from Wonthaggi, Victoria. He enlisted on 13 May 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 4th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 15 June 1919.

57437 Private Frank Redvers KEMPTON, a 25 year old Labourer from Lindenow, Victoria. He enlisted on 12 March 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 4th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 15 June 1919.

 

57438 Private Leslie LEIBHARDT, an 18 year old Horse driver from Geelong, Victoria. He enlisted on 27 April 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 4th Light Horse Machine Gun Squadron; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 2 August 1919.

57439 Private John Mouritz LOGIN, a 19 year old Jackeroo from Essendon, Victoria. He enlisted on 13 February 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 4th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 15 June 1919.

57440 Private Samuel LUKE, a 27 year old Farmer from Jerilderie via Finley, New South Wales. He enlisted on 14 February 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 4th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 15 June 1919.

 

57448 Private Frank MacGREGOR, a 25 year old Plaster from Croxton, Victoria. He enlisted on 28 July 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 1st Light Horse Field Squadron Engineers; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 3 July 1919.

57445 Private Albert Arthur McCANN, an 18 year old Horse driver from Waurn Ponds Geelong, Victoria. He enlisted on 27 April 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 4th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 15 June 1919.

57446 Private George Leonard McCORKELL, an 18 year old Labourer from Wangaratta, Victoria. He enlisted on 3 January 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 4th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 10 July 1919.

57450 Private Daniel McKAY, a 43 year old Blacksmith from Numurkah, Victoria. He enlisted on 17 March 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 4th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 15 June 1919.

57441 Private Edward MEEHAN, a 21 year old Labourer from Geelong, Victoria. He enlisted on 1 May 1916. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the Did Not Embark; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 29 April 1919.

57443 Private Francis John MILNE, a 19 year old Carter driver from North Williamstown, Victoria. He enlisted on 13 February 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 4th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 15 June 1919.

57444 Private Archibald Lewis MOLLOY, a 19 year old Horse breaker from Fitzroy, Victoria. He enlisted on 14 May 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 4th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 15 June 1919.

 

57451 Private Eric North NORTH, a 31 year old Orchard manager from West Bay West Tamar, Tasmania. He enlisted on 17 February 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 3rd Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 26 July 1919.

 

57452 Private Charles Elisah OSBORNE, a 32 year old Farmer from Warrnambool, Victoria. He enlisted on 2 April 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 4th Light Horse Machine Gun Squadron; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 24 July 1919.

57454 Private Reuben John POPE, a 21 year old Farmer from Faulkner, Victoria. He enlisted on 13 March 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 4th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 15 June 1919.

57455 Private Andrew Walter John Thomas PRICE, a 27 year old Contractor from Numurkah, Victoria. He enlisted on 17 March 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 4th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 15 June 1919.

 

57456 Private Robert Valentine ROBERTSON, a 25 year old Labourer from Mortlake, Victoria. He enlisted on 19 April 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 3rd Light Horse Machine Gun Squadron; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 10 July 1919.

57457 Private Carl Oswald SCHULTZE, a 22 year old Farmer from Mangoplah via Wagga, New South Wales. He enlisted on 4 April 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 2nd Light Horse Field Ambulance; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 26 July 1919.

57458 Private James William SIMPSON, a 21 year old Boundary rider from Teesdale via Geelong, Victoria. He enlisted on 22 February 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 4th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 15 June 1919.

57459 Private William John STEPHENS, an 18 year old Farm labourer from Drouin, Victoria. He enlisted on 23 April 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 2nd Light Horse Machine Gun Squadron; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 28 June 1919.

57460 Private John SUTTON, a 22 year old Farmer from Wedderburn, Victoria. He enlisted on 7 March 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 4th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 15 June 1919.

 

57461 Private Eric Frank TABOR, an 18 year old Salesman from Moonie Ponds, Victoria. He enlisted on 5 February 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 4th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 15 June 1919.

57462 Private Matthew Septimus THOMAS, a 31 year old Farmer from Blackwarry Gippsland, Victoria. He enlisted on 24 January 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 2nd Light Horse Field Ambulance; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 16 March 1919.

57463 Private Harold James THOMPSON, a 27 year old Farmer from Lancefield junction, Victoria. He enlisted on 17 December 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 2nd Light Horse Field Ambulance; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 3 July 1919.

 

57465 Private William WADSWORTH, a 21 year old Bag Sower from Murrumbeena, Victoria. He enlisted on 17 December 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 4th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 15 June 1919.

57467 Private Arthur Thomson WARTMAN, an 18 year old Clerk from Elsternwick, Victoria. He enlisted on 14 January 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 4th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 17 July 1919.

57466 Private Alfred WASER, a 21 year old Farmer from Ulupna West via Strathmerton, Victoria. He enlisted on 19 February 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 4th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 15 June 1919.

57468 Private John Alfred WATSON, an 18 year old Boilermaker from Maryborough, Victoria. He enlisted on 16 January 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 4th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 15 June 1919.

57469 Private Leonard WATT, a 31 year old Baker from Quambatook, Victoria. He enlisted on 11 May 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 4th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 29 April 1919.

57470 Private William Edgar Gordon WILSON, an 18 year old Farmer from Camperdown, Victoria. He enlisted on 22 April 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 3rd Light Horse Machine Gun Squadron; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 10 July 1919.

57471 Private Albert Watson WOODBURN, a 32 year old Farmer from Melbourne, Victoria. He enlisted on 27 March 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 4th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 15 June 1919.

57474 Private George Griffiths WOOLCOTT, a 20 year old Station Hand from N/R. He enlisted on 19 April 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 4th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 19 February 1919.
