HMAT A55 Kyarra, 1916

 

5th Australian Light Horse Regiment, AIF, 8th Reinforcements, embarked from Brisbane, Queensland on board HMAT A55 Kyarra 10 August 1915.

The HMAT A55 Kyarra weighed 6,953 tons with an average cruise speed of 14 knots or 25.92 kmph. It was owned by the AUSN Co Ltd, London, and manned by Australia officers and crew. The Kyarra was leased by the Commonwealth until 4 January 1918. The Kyarra was torpedoed and sunk by a submarine in the English Channel, 26 May 1918.

The ensuing individual soldier's embarkation information contains the following details:

The last address as a civilian;

Enlistment Date; and,

Fate.

1152 Private Thomas BONNER, a 39 year old Labourer from Mossman via Cairns, Queensland. He enlisted on 24 February 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 16 January 1918.

1153 Private William Thomas BUNCH, a 29 year old Stockman from Brisbane, Queensland. He enlisted on 26 February 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 20 July 1919.

 

1155 Private Charles Junior CAMPBELL, a 21 year old Farmer from Mundubbera, Queensland. He enlisted on 1 March 1915; and subsequently Died of Wounds, 26 October 1918.

1154 Corporal Lionel Matthew CASE, a 31 year old Stockman from Brisbane, Queensland. He enlisted on 5 April 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 1 January 1919.

 

1156 Private Alexander DANIEL, a 22 year old Labourer from Maryborough, Queensland. He enlisted on 2 March 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 26 December 1918.

1195 Private Lindsay DAWSON, a 21 year old Labourer from Goondiwindi, Queensland. He enlisted on 7 January 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 8 January 1919.

1159 Private Elmer DAYTON, a 24 year old Coal Miner from Bulimba, Queensland. He enlisted on 2 March 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 25 September 1919.

1157 Private Joseph DEVLIN, a 28 year old Boot maker from no address. He enlisted on 20 February 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 2 August 1919.

1201 Private Cuthbert Seymour Lechmere DeWINTON, a 31 year old Independent from Brisbane, Queensland. He enlisted on 22 January 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 17 July 1916.

1171 Private Charles Birfield DICKASON, a 24 year old Stockman from Brisbane, Queensland. He enlisted on 11 March 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 28 June 1919.

1204 Private Harry DOYLE, a 25 year old Labourer from Tocumwal, Queensland. He enlisted on 6 March 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 8 March 1917.

 

1158 Private John Adrian FENNER, a 20 year old Stockman from Brisbane, Queensland. He enlisted on 29 April 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 22 January 1917.

1162 Private George FERRAR, a 22 year old Labourer from Murrays Creek, Queensland. He enlisted on 2 March 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 12 November 1917.

1161 Private David FISHER, a 19 year old Drover from Ardlethan, Queensland. He enlisted on 4 March 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 15 February 1918.
