HMAT A29 Suevic

 

6th Australian Light Horse Regiment, AIF, Regimental Headquarters Section, embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board HMAT A29 Suevic 21 December 1914.

The HMAT A29 Suevic weighed 12,531 tons with an average cruise speed of 13 knots or 24.07 kmph. It was owned by the Oceanic SN Co Ltd, Liverpool, and leased by the Commonwealth until 9 September 1917.

The ensuing individual soldier's embarkation information contains the following details:

Rank on embarkation;

Full name of the soldier

Declared age of the soldier;

The last occupation held;

The last address as a civilian;

Enlistment Date; and,

Fate.

Captain, Quartermaster Frank Richard ARTHUR, a 38 year old Traveller from Newton, New South Wales. He enlisted on 1 December 1914; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 30 October 1915.

 

17 Private John BACK, a 29 year old Farmer from Sydney, New South Wales. He enlisted on 24 September 1914; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 27 June 1919.

551 Private Percy BRAZEL, a 25 year old Horse breaker from Liverpool, New South Wales. He enlisted on 23 November 1914; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 24 September 1918.

18 Private Leslie Arthur BRYSON, a 23 year old Clerk from Goulburn, New South Wales. He enlisted on 14 September 1914; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 17 July 1919.

 

630 Private Joseph CALDWELL, a 24 year old Bush worker from Sydney, New South Wales. He enlisted on 28 October 1914; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 10 March 1918.

20 Private Vivian Gowan COLLINS, a 36 year old Clerk from Evansdale, Tasmania. He enlisted on 14 September 1914; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 15 November 1918.

512 Private William John CONNELL, a 32 year old Labourer from Mosman, New South Wales. He enlisted on 6 November 1914; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 15 November 1918.

Lieutenant Colonel Charles Frederick COX, a 51 year old Inspector of Accounts from Croydon, New South Wales. He enlisted on 15 September 1914; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 13 March 1919.

 

Lieutenant George Arthur FERGUSON, a 27 year old Wool Classer from Mosman, New South Wales. He enlisted on 3 November 1914; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 23 December 1919.

Major Colin Dunmore FULLER, a 33 year old Farmer from Dunmore, New South Wales. He enlisted on 28 September 1914; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 28 June 1919.

 

23 Driver William GORDON, a 22 year old Plate layer from Sydney, New South Wales. He enlisted on 25 September 1914; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 7 January 1919.

 

811 Private Francis Harold HALL, a 35 year old Station manager from Woollahra, New South Wales. He enlisted on 30 September 1914; and subsequently was Discharged in Britain, 4 April 1917.

35 Private George HAMILTON, a 29 year old Labourer from Paddington, New South Wales. He enlisted on 2 September 1914; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 10 March 1918.

605 Private Lewis Charles Henry HARRIS, a 20 year old Rail cleaner / Rail Fireman from Penshurst, New South Wales. He enlisted on 17 November 1914; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 15 January 1919.

34 Private John Henry HARVEY, a 31 year old Municipal attendant from Chippendale, New South Wales. He enlisted on 17 September 1914; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 25 November 1919.

 

547 Farrier Quartermaster Sergeant Thomas Clancy JOHNSTONE, a 27 year old Soldier from Adelong, New South Wales. He enlisted on 19 November 1914; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 31 May 1919.

 

146 Signaller Walter LAMBERT, a 31 year old Telegraph linesman from Erskineville, New South Wales / Newtown, New South Wales. He enlisted on 8 September 1914; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 16 March 1919.

4 Orderly Room Sergeant Walter Gwennap LEGGE, a 44 year old Civil servant from Sydney, New South Wales. He enlisted on 28 September 1914; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 18 February 1919.

 

671 Private Gordon Stewart MacKAY, a 27 year old Estate agent from Concord, New South Wales. He enlisted on 24 September 1914; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 26 December 1918.

893 Driver James Phillip McCORMACK, a 23 year old Farm hand from Narrandera, New South Wales. He enlisted on 7 October 1914; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 28 June 1919.

290 Private Frank McNEILL, a 27 year old Sawyer from Boggabri, New South Wales. He enlisted on 14 September 1914; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 19 May 1918.

22 Driver Norman Leslie MEDCALF, a 24 year old Labourer from Ballarat, Victoria. He enlisted on 25 September 1914; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 21 November 1916.

15 Private Edward Dudley MILBOURNEaka Edward Dudley Melbourne MARSH, a 30 year old Farmer from Balmain East, New South Wales. He enlisted on 14 October 1914; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 15 November 1918.

32 Private Vernon William MURRAY, a 24 year old Policeman from Wagga, New South Wales. He enlisted on 14 September 1914; and subsequently was Killed in Action, 22 May 1915.

 

6 Sergeant Cook Ernest PATEMAN, a 45 year old Soldier from St Peters, New South Wales. He enlisted on 10 September 1914; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 10 June 1916.

1 Regimental Sergeant Major Harry PAULIN, a 42 year old A&I Staff from Goulburn, New South Wales. He enlisted on 7 December 1914; and subsequently was Killed in Action, 19 July 1916.

 

31 Private Edwin Thomas REED, a 24 year old Steward from Sydney, New South Wales. He enlisted on 14 September 1914; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 26 October 1919.

 

14 Private Albert SMITH, a 25 year old Carpenter's mate from Hull, England. He enlisted on 31 August 1914; and at the conclusion of the war Discharged in Britain, 17 May 1919.

Captain George Cattell SOMERVILLE, a 36 year old Soldier / Army and Instructional Staff from North Sydney, New South Wales. He enlisted on 20 November 1914; and subsequently was Discharged, 31 March 1919.

307 Private Roy Frazer STRACHAN, a 22 year old Motor driver from Casino, New South Wales. He enlisted on 14 September 1914; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 17 July 1918.

 

2 Regimental Quartermaster Sergeant Alfred Charles THOMPSON, a 28 year old Soldier / A&I Staff from Petersham, New South Wales. He enlisted on 5 October 1914; and subsequently was Killed in Action, 2 November 1917.

53 Sad/Sgt Henry Joseph THOMPSON, a 34 year old Grazier from Adelong, New South Wales. He enlisted on 1 September 1914; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 15 November 1918.

177 Private Henry Frederick Wallace TUCKER, a 36 year old Railway porter from Wallangarra, New South Wales. He enlisted on 14 September 1914; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 8 March 1917.
