HMAT A23 Suffolk

 

7th Australian Light Horse Regiment, AIF, 8th Reinforcement, embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board HMAT A23 Suffolk on 28 July 1915.

The HMAT A23 Suffolk weighed 7573 tons with an average cruise speed of 12 knots or 22.22 kmph. It was owned by the Potter, Trinder and Gwyn, London, and leased by the Commonwealth until 14 June 1917.

The ensuing individual soldier's embarkation information contains the following details:

1196 Private John CARMODY, a 38 year old Shearer from Toowong, Queensland. He enlisted on 12 April 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 21 July 1917.

1208 Private Oliver Joseph Bourke CLARKE, a 22 year old Bank Clerk from North Sydney, New South Wales. He enlisted on 11 April 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 14 March 1919.

1207 Private Stewart CLAYDON, a 19 year old Station hand from Concord, New South Wales. He enlisted on 16 June 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 6 May 1919.

 

1197 Private Harold Herbert DEAN, a 23 year old Grazier from Bena, New South Wales. He enlisted on 28 June 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 13 December 1918.

1209 Private Henry James FROST, an 18 year old Engineer from Lidcombe, New South Wales. He enlisted on 7 July 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 12 November 1917.

1198 Private Frederick Harvey FULLER, a 27 year old Architect from Ryde, New South Wales. He enlisted on 28 June 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 12 March 1920.

 

1163 Private Jesse GARROOD, a 23 year old Farmer from Sydney, New South Wales. He enlisted on 26 April 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 5 March 1919.

1213 Private Daniel GILLIAM, a 29 year old Coal lumper from Sydney, New South Wales. He enlisted on 2 July 1915; but did not embark from Melbourne and returned to Sydney to be Discharged in Australia, 25 April 1916.

1199 Private Edmund GRACE, a 23 year old Mechanic from Woollahra, New South Wales. He enlisted on 29 April 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 8 December 1918.

Lieutenant Owen Stanley Bynames HOGG, a 26 year old Dentist from Hunters Hill, New South Wales. He enlisted on 26 June 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 24 January 1919.
