HMAT A1 Hymettus

 

8th Australian Light Horse Regiment, AIF, 14th Reinforcement, embarked from Melbourne, Victoria on board HMAT A1 Hymettus 27 January 1916.

The HMAT A1 Hymettus weighed 4,606 tons with an average cruise speed of 11.5 knots or 21.3 kmph. It was owned by the British India SN Co Ltd, London, and leased by the Commonwealth until 15 May 1917.

1997 Private John McGRATH, a 28 year old Gardener from North Melbourne, Victoria. He enlisted on 9 July 1915; and subsequently was Killed in Action, 30 December 1916.

2000A Private Charles Philip McNALLY, a 30 year old Labourer from Warracknabeal, Victoria. He enlisted on 20 July 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 1 May 1919.

1990 Private Vivian Henry MILLARD, a 32 year old Horse driver from Auburn, Victoria. He enlisted on 21 August 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 25 March 1919.

1994 Private Clarence MURPHY, an 18 year old Labourer from Swan Hill via Piangil, Victoria. He enlisted on 5 October 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 10 January 1918.

 

2002A Private William Herbert PAPPIN, a 38 year old Labourer from Williamstown, South Australia. He enlisted on 11 December 1915; and subsequently was Killed in Action, 31 December 1916.

2003A Private Sidney Frederick PARSONS, an 18 year old Farmer from Cheltenham, Victoria. He enlisted on 25 September 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 2 June 1919.

2004A Private William George PEPPER, a 21 year old Labourer from Melbourne, Victoria. He enlisted on 9 September 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 15 May 1919.

2008A Private Philip PHILLIPS, a 33 year old Labourer from Maldon, Victoria. He enlisted on 29 July 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 10 July 1919.

2009A Private Henry PICKFORD, a 21 year old Butcher from Melbourne, Victoria. He enlisted on 5 July 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 15 June 1919.

2011A Private Frederick James POWELL, a 40 year old Rail worker from Melbourne, Victoria. He enlisted on 7 October 1915; and subsequently was Killed in Action, 3 May 1917.

2012A Private Tobias Patrick PURCELL, a 23 year old Saddler from Deniliquin, New South Wales. He enlisted on 17 November 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 12 May 1917.
