Embarkation Roll, 27th Reinforcement

 

HMAT A41 Bakara

 

8th Australian Light Horse Regiment, AIF, 27th Reinforcement, embarked from Melbourne, Victoria on board HMAT A42 Boorara 10 May 1917.

The HMAT A41 Bakara weighed 5,930 tons with an average cruise speed of 10.5 knots or 19.44 kmph. The Bakara was previously a captured German vessel called Constaff. It was manned by Australia officers and crew and transferred to Commonwealth Government Line, 1 May 1918.

The ensuing individual soldier's embarkation information contains the following details:

Rank on embarkation;

Full name of the soldier

Declared age of the soldier;

The last occupation held;

The last address as a civilian;

Enlistment Date; and,

Fate.

3323 Private James Arthur BAKER, a 32 year old Teacher from Wedderburn, Victoria. He enlisted on 17 February 1917; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 3 July 1919.

3291 Private Walter Anderson BOYS, a 30 year old Orchardist from Seville, Victoria. He enlisted on 22 December 1916; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 4 March 1919.

 

3293 Private James Crawford CALLANDER, a 21 year old Machinist from Malvern, Victoria. He enlisted on 30 January 1917; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 3 July 1919.

 

3319 Private William Walter DANIEL, a 27 year old Horse Trainer from Bairnsdale, Victoria. He enlisted on 11 February 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 11 July 1918.

3296 Private Walter Henry Lawrence DARRINGTON, a 24 year old Linesman from Ascot Vale, Victoria. He enlisted on 9 February 1917; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 25 September 1919.

3320 Private Harry Roy DAVEY, a 21 year old Japanner from Broadford, Victoria. He enlisted on 17 September 1914; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 12 November 1917.

432 Warrant Officer 1st Class James Ramsay DUNCAN, a 30 year old Commercial traveller from Ivanhoe, Victoria. He enlisted on 28 September 1914; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 15 April 1918.

 

3325 Private Robert James EDEN, a 27 year old Station hand from Heatherton, Victoria. He enlisted on 12 February 1917; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 10 July 1919.

3297 Private James ENNIS, a 22 year old Sawyer from Brunswick, Victoria. He enlisted on 24 February 1917; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 3 July 1919.

 

3294 Private William GOWERS, a 23 year old Driver from South Yarra, Victoria. He enlisted on 20 February 1917; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 3 July 1919.

3298 Private Frederick Hutton GRAY, a 28 year old Traveller from East St Kilda, Victoria. He enlisted on 31 January 1917; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 14 March 1919.

3330 Private Lindsay Gordon GREIG, a 22 year old Jockey from West Brunswick, Victoria. He enlisted on 20 March 1917; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 10 July 1919.

 

3300 Private Hubert William HAWKINS, a 23 year old Farmer from Thorpdale, Victoria. He enlisted on 6 February 1917; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 3 July 1919.

3301 Private William Arthur HENSLEY, a 29 year old Farmer from Diapur, Victoria. He enlisted on 17 October 1916; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 31 January 1919.

3321 Private William HOGG, a 40 year old Horse driver from Tarrawarra, Victoria. He enlisted on 13 March 1917; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 12 July 1918.

 

3328 Warrant Officer 1st Class Louis Arthur JACKSON, a 30 year old Soldier from Albert Park, Victoria. He enlisted on 9 March 1917; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 29 April 1919.

 

3328 Private James Kittrick KENNEDY, a 26 year old Farmer from Camberwell, Victoria. He enlisted on 13 March 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 15 June 1919.

 

3302 Private Joseph Francis Michael Augustine LANFRANCHINI, a 25 year old Farmer from Mt Hooghly, Victoria. He enlisted on 2 November 1916; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 3 July 1919.

3329 Private Charles Vincent LEA, a 20 year old Boot maker from Ballarat, Victoria. He enlisted on 12 February 1917; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 25 September 1919.

3315 Private John Leslie THOMAS, a 23 year old Builder from West Footscray, Victoria. He enlisted on 22 October 1914; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 4 October 1918.
