HMAT A55 Kyarra

 

4th Light Horse Field Ambulance, AIF, 3rd Reinforcement, embarked Brisbane, Queensland on board HMAT A55 Kyarra 16 August 1915.

The HMAT A55 Kyarra weighed 6,953 tons with an average cruise speed of 14 knots or 25.92 kmph. It was owned by the AUSN Co Ltd, London, and manned by Australia officers and crew. The Kyarra was leased by the Commonwealth until 4 January 1918. The Kyarra was torpedoed and sunk by a submarine in the English Channel, 26 May 1918.

The ensuing individual soldier's embarkation information contains the following details:

Rank on embarkation;

Full name of the soldier

Declared age of the soldier;

The last occupation held;

The last address as a civilian;

Enlistment Date; and,

Fate.

Embarkation Roll

 

1673 Private Thomas BEECH, a 20 year old Ambulance man from Baking Board, Queensland. He enlisted on 5 July 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 12 April 1919.

 

1671 Private William John CUMBERLAND, a 26 year old Chemist mate from Nundah, Queensland. He enlisted on 22 June 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 2 January 1919.

 

1672 Private Alan Somerset Orde FULLER, a 20 year old Ambulance man from Brisbane, Queensland. He enlisted on 22 June 1915; and subsequently was Killed in Action, 19 August 1916.
