HMAT A55 Kyarra

 

1st Australian Light Horse Regiment, AIF, 29th Reinforcements, embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board HMAT A55 Kyarra 3 September 1917.

The HMAT A55 Kyarra weighed 6,953 tons with an average cruise speed of 14 knots or 25.92 kmph. It was owned by the AUSN Co Ltd, London, and manned by Australia officers and crew. The Kyarra was leased by the Commonwealth until 4 January 1918. The Kyarra was torpedoed and sunk by a submarine in the English Channel, 26 May 1918.

The ensuing individual soldier's embarkation information contains the following details:

Rank on embarkation;

Full name of the soldier

Declared age of the soldier;

The last occupation held;

The last address as a civilian;

Enlistment Date; and,

Fate.

3409 Private Charles Alfred CLARKE, a 40 year old Farmer from Karangi, Orara River, New South Wales. He enlisted on 23 March 1917; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 18 August 1919.

3410 Private Leslie James CLARKE, a 30 year old Labourer from Maryvale, New South Wales. He enlisted on 28 February 1917; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 28 December 1917.

3415 Private John Vernon DOBBIN, an 18 year old Audit Clerk from North Sydney, New South Wales. He enlisted on 31 March 1917; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 13 March 1919.

 

3416 Acting Sergeant William Edward FAGG, a 34 year old Farmer from Tooles Creek Wagga, New South Wales. He enlisted on 16 November 1916; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 29 April 1919.

3544 Private Reginald Harry MELBOURN, a 45 year old Poultry farmer from Murrays Farm via Liverpool, New South Wales. He enlisted on 19 April 1917; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 14 April 1918.

 

3550 Private Edward Roy PETERS, a 20 year old Carter from Goulburn, New South Wales. He enlisted on 5 May 1917; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 3 July 1919.

 

3563 Private Victor RADOLL, an 18 year old Fireman from Cooks Hill Newcastle. He enlisted on 26 May 1917; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 2 August 1919.

3551 Private Albert Standish RANDELL, a 33 year old Farmer from Mudgee, New South Wales. He enlisted on 18 April 1917; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 30 August 1918.

 

3552 Private Victor Alexander SIMPSON, a 19 year old Bank officer from Casino, New South Wales. He enlisted on 28 March 1917; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 13 March 1919.

 

3553 Private Roy Amore TILSE, a 28 year old Shearer from Amaroo via Woolooma, New South Wales. He enlisted on 30 May 1917; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 18 February 1919.

 

3555 Private John Patrick WALL, a 26 year old Labourer from Dungowan via Tamworth, New South Wales. He enlisted on 4 June 1917; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 13 March 1919.
