2nd Australian Light Horse Regiment, AIF, 28th Reinforcements, embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board HMAT A15 Port Sydney 9 May 1917.

The HMAT A15 Star of England, later renamed HMAT A15 Port Sydney, weighed 9,136 tons with an average cruise speed of 13.5 knots or 25.00 kmph. It was owned by the Commonwealth & Dominion Line Ltd, London, and leased by the Commonwealth until 22 September 1917.

The ensuing individual soldier's embarkation information contains the following details:

Rank on embarkation;

Full name of the soldier;

Declared age of the soldier;

The last occupation held;

The last address as a civilian;

Enlistment Date; and,

Fate.

3381 Private James Charles BARKER, an 18 year old Station hand from Toowoomba, Queensland. He enlisted on 26 February 1917; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 3 July 1919.

3349 Private Carl BECK, a 21 year old Miner from Cairns, Queensland. He enlisted on 22 February 1917; and subsequently was Killed in Action, 31 October 1917.

3373 Private Hugh Robert BROWN, an 18 year old Labourer from Sunnyside, Queensland. He enlisted on 20 January 1917; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 13 March 1919.

 

3350 Private Sydney James CHERRY, a 23 year old Roo Shooter from Warwick, Queensland. He enlisted on 27 February 1917; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 20 July 1919.

3351 Private Samuel George COOPER, a 19 year old Labourer from Garget, Queensland. He enlisted on 24 April 1917; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 12 July 1918.

 

3352 Private George DAVIES, a 26 year old Labourer from Ipswich, Queensland. He enlisted on 5 February 1917; and subsequently was Discharged in Britain, 17 October 1919.

 

3353 Private Jack Norris FARLEY, an 18 year old Mechanic from Boonah Queensland. He enlisted on 23 January 1917; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 29 July 1919.

 

3382 Private Arthur Thomas GIBSON, a 21 year old Watchmaker from Toowoomba, Queensland. He enlisted on 8 January 1917; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 28 January 1919.

3357 Private George Albert GORRIE, a 24 year old Labourer from Townsville, Queensland. He enlisted on 6 February 1917; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 18 February 1919.

 

3374 Private Robert JACKSON, a 27 year old Labourer from Cooroy, Queensland. He enlisted on 10 February 1917; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 26 July 1919.

 

3358 Private William Walter LALOR, an 18 year old Butcher from South Brisbane, Queensland. He enlisted on 9 February 1917; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 29 April 1919.

3346 Sergeant Valdemar Adolph LAURITZEN, a 28 year old Soldier, Australian Instructional Staff from Kyogle, Queensland. He enlisted on 1 March 1917; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 13 March 1919.

 

3359 Private Jeremiah McCARTHY, a 44 year old Plumber from Townsville, Queensland. He enlisted on 1 February 1917; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 23 August 1917.

 

3379 Private James William NELSON, a 43 year old Labourer from Charleville, Queensland. He enlisted on 30 December 1916; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 28 December 1917.

3360 Private Arthur Gabriel NORTHCROFT, a 37 year old Blacksmith from Bingara, Queensland. He enlisted on 8 January 1917; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 4 March 1919.

 

3380 Private Clarence James OLDS, an 18 year old Motor Mechanic from Noosa Tewantin, Queensland. He enlisted on 12 February 1917; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 13 March 1919.

3361 Private William Henry OLIVER, a 23 year old Tank sinker from Goondiwindi, Queensland. He enlisted on 25 October 1916; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 13 March 1919.

 

3362 Private Ivo George PORTER, an 18 year old Labourer from Rockhampton, Queensland. He enlisted on 24 February 1917; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 12 November 1917.

 

3383 Private John REARDON, an 18 year old Labourer from Lismore, New South Wales. He enlisted on 4 January 1917; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 13 March 1919.

3363 Private William Ferguson ROBERTSON, a 31 year old Ploughman from Perrinurn Dalby, Queensland. He enlisted on 15 January 1917; and at the conclusion of the war was Discharged in Britain, 28 June 1919.

3364 Private Mark Roy ROGERS, a 27 year old Labourer from Wooloowin, Queensland. He enlisted on 10 February 1917; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 2 January 1919.

 

3366 Private Thomas Wilson SALMON, a 27 year old Labourer from Ipswich, Queensland. He enlisted on 31 October 1916; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 21 May 1917.

3367 Private John Thomas SHERRINGTON, a 19 year old Labourer from Brisbane, Queensland. He enlisted on 26 March 1917; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 28 March 1919.

3368 Private William George SIMPSON, a 27 year old Labourer from Windorah via Avadale, Queensland. He enlisted on 13 February 1917; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 13 March 1919.

3369 Private Horace Clifford STANTON, a 44 year old Bookkeeper from Windorah via Avadale, Queensland. He enlisted on 10 November 1916; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 10 July 1919.

3377 Private Charles Cyril STEVENS, a 24 year old Rail porter from Indooroopilly, Queensland. He enlisted on 10 April 1917; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 15 May 1919.

 

3370 Private Charles Norman Roseneons THOMPSON, a 19 year old Labourer from Morningside, Queensland. He enlisted on 16 February 1917; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 10 July 1919.

3372 Private James WYLIE, a 38 year old Tinsmith from Innisfail, Queensland. He enlisted on 10 February 1917; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 16 March 1919.

 

3375 Private Frederick YEOWART, a 22 year old Labourer from Goodna, Queensland. He enlisted on 22 July 1916; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 15 December 1918.

3376 Private Edward YOUNGER, a 42 year old Stockman from Goodna, Queensland. He enlisted on 29 January 1917; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 15 June 1919.

HMAT A55 Kyarra 

 

2nd Australian Light Horse Regiment, AIF, 29th Reinforcements, embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board HMAT A55 Kyarra on 3 September 1917.

The HMAT A55 Kyarra weighed 6,953 tons with an average cruise speed of 14 knots or 25.92 kmph. It was owned by the AUSN Co Ltd, London, and manned by Australia officers and crew. The Kyarra was leased by the Commonwealth until 4 January 1918. The Kyarra was torpedoed and sunk by a submarine in the English Channel, 26 May 1918.

The ensuing individual soldier's embarkation information contains the following details:

3440 Private Hugh Carlyle BLACK, a 27 year old Clerk from Brisbane, Queensland. He enlisted on 16 July 1917; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 23 December 1918.

3412 Private Robert James BOTT, a 31 year old Farmer from Coalstoun Lakes. He enlisted on 24 April 1917; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 13 March 1919.

50484 Private Leonard David OWEN, an 18 year old Machinist from Battery Pt Hobart, Tasmania. He enlisted on 16 November 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 3rd Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 16 May 1919.

 

50455 Private Frederick Godfrey PALFREYMAN, a 23 year old Grazier from Toowoomba, Queensland. He enlisted on 23 November 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 8th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Discharged 26 January 1919.

50456 Private Albert Edward PARSONS, a 21 year old Orchardist from North Fitzroy, Victoria. He enlisted on 11 February 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 2nd Light Horse Field Ambulance; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 3 July 1919.

 

50457 Private Louis Clifton REIFFEL, a 22 year old Driver from Ballarat North, Victoria. He enlisted on 6 March 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 8th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 3 July 1919.

50458 Private William Clyde ROACHE, an 18 year old Labourer from Malmsbury, Victoria. He enlisted on 14 January 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 8th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 3 July 1919.

50474 Private Philip Peter RYAN, a 21 year old Farmer from Sealake, Victoria. He enlisted on 21 February 1916. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 8th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 3 July 1919.

 

50459 Private Leslie Hardwick SAVAGE, a 24 year old Farmer from Dandenong, Victoria. He enlisted on 14 December 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 4th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 19 January 1919.

50481 Private Cyril James SCOTT, a 22 year old Motor Driver from Melbourne, Victoria. He enlisted on 1 April 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 4th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 15 June 1919.

50460 Sapper William Reynolds SCOTT, a 27 year old Motor Mechanic from Bendigo, Victoria. He enlisted on 10 July 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the "D" Field Troop & Bridging Train; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 14 March 1919.

50461 Private Kenneth SIMPSON, an 18 year old Farm Labourer from Monbulk, Victoria. He enlisted on 26 November 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 8th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 3 July 1919.

50462 Private James STUART, a 36 year old Farrier from Yea, Victoria. He enlisted on 26 January 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 4th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 18 December 1919.

 

50463 Private Walter Edward TAYLOR, an 18 year old Grocer from Hobart, Tasmania. He enlisted on 3 January 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 3rd Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 16 May 1919.

50464 Private Charles Walter TROMP, an 18 year old Miner from St Kilda, Victoria. He enlisted on 9 August 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 8th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 4 March 1919.

 

50465 Private George Knox VEITCH, a 30 year old Farmer from Casterton, Victoria. He enlisted on 5 February 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 3rd Light Horse Machine Gun Squadron; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 10 July 1919.

 

50467 Private Henry WAITE, a 21 year old Farm Labourer from Tyack, Victoria. He enlisted on 11 December 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 8th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 14 March 1919.

50468 Private William WALLER, an 18 year old Printer from Hobart, Tasmania. He enlisted on 24 September 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 3rd Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 17 July 1919.

50472 Private Frank Cecil WATTS, a 40 year old Driver from South Yarra, Victoria. He enlisted on 2 April 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 4th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 17 July 1919.

50469 Private William Henry WESTON, an 18 year old Postal worker from South Preston, Victoria. He enlisted on 5 March 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 4th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 15 June 1919.

50471 Private George Henry WRIGHT, a 21 year old Labourer from Melbourne, Victoria. He enlisted on 31 January 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 4th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 15 June 1919.
