3rd Australian Light Horse Regiment, AIF, 5th Reinforcement, embarked from Adelaide, South Australia on board HMAT A59 Botanist 2 June 1915

The HMAT A59 Botanist weighed 7,688 tons with an average cruise speed of 13 knots or 24.07 kmph. It was owned by the Charente SS Co Ltd, Liverpool, and leased by the Commonwealth until 6 December 1916.

The ensuing individual soldier's embarkation information contains the following details:

Rank on embarkation;

Full name of the soldier

Declared age of the soldier;

The last occupation held;

The last address as a civilian;

Enlistment Date; and,

Fate.

Private George BEVAN, an 18 year old Labourer from South Melbourne, Victoria. He enlisted on 3 December 1914; and did not embark. He enlisted with the 5th then 59th Infantry Battalions and subsequently was Killed in Action, 19 July 1916.

986 Private Mervyn Stafford BLYTH, a 22 year old Farmer from Partridge Is, Tasmania. He enlisted on 29 January 1915; and subsequently was Killed in Action, 23 December 1916.

1947 Private Augustus BRANDT, a 25 year old Labourer from Kooringa Burra, South Australia. He enlisted on 6 January 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 15 May 1919.

987 Private Adge Charles BURKE, a 24 year old Labourer from St Patricks River, Tasmania. He enlisted on 4 February 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 31 October 1915.

 

934 Private Charles Bowcher CASS, a 25 year old Farmer from Pyap, South Australia. He enlisted on 2 December 1914; and subsequently was Killed in Action, 2 September 1918.

935 Private James Ephrim CATHCART, a 29 year old Labourer from Panmure, Victoria. He enlisted on 2 December 1914; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 17 July 1919.

937 Private Francis Edward COAD, a 20 year old Letter carrier from Unley, South Australia. He enlisted on 1 January 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 26 January 1919.

936 Private Leslie Cuthbert COLMER, a 19 year old Butcher from Coramant, South Australia. He enlisted on 27 November 1914; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 15 May 1919.

968 Private Arthur John COPAL, a 23 year old Sailor from Hobart, Tasmania. He enlisted on 20 November 1914; and subsequently was Discharged in Britain, 12 August 1919.

 

938 Private John Nicholson DALZELL, a 24 year old Farm worker from Adelaide, South Australia. He enlisted on 27 November 1914; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 22 September 1919.

939 Private Joseph DAVIES, a 26 year old Farmer Labourer from Oaklands, South Australia. He enlisted on 25 November 1914; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 15 May 1919.

988 Private Leslie Raymond DIPROSE, an 18 year old Labourer from Somerset, Tasmania. He enlisted on 29 January 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 15 May 1919.

1020 Private John Burns DODDS, a 22 year old Rail worker from Port Adelaide, South Australia. He enlisted on 8 January 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 15 June 1919.

 

940 Private Robert Shakel EDWARDS, a 19 year old Labourer from Kooringa, South Australia. He enlisted on 28 November 1914; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 15 May 1919.

943 Private Ivan Cecil Winfred GILL, a 21 year old Boot maker from Meadows, South Australia. He enlisted on 27 November 1914; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 15 May 1919.

995 Private William Henry GRACIE, an 18 year old Farmer from Burnie, South Australia. He enlisted on 17 February 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 21 April 1918.

1156 Private Albert James OLIVER, a 25 year old Carpenter from Forth, Tasmania. He enlisted on 10 March 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 10 June 1916.

 

1157 Private Albert Claude PORTHOUSE, a 21 year old Motor driver from Hobart, Tasmania. He enlisted on 9 June 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 28 January 1919.

 

1158 Private Roy Oscar THOMPSON, a 23 year old Labourer from Northdown, Tasmania. He enlisted on 17 June 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 2 September 1916.

 

1159 Private Roderick Noel White WEAVER, an 18 year old Clerk from Newtown, Tasmania. He enlisted on 21 June 1915; and subsequently was Killed in Action, 4 August 1916.

 

1160 Private Richard Rezin YORK, a 19 year old Farmer from West Kentish, Tasmania. He enlisted on 19 June 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 3 January 1916.
