HMAT A1 Hymettus

 

11th Australian Light Horse Regiment, AIF, 4th Reinforcements Hymettus Group, embarked from Brisbane, Queensland on board HMAT A1 Hymettus 17 September 1915.

The HMAT A1 Hymettus weighed 4,606 tons with an average cruise speed of 11.5 knots or 21.3 kmph. It was owned by the British India SN Co Ltd, London, and leased by the Commonwealth until 15 May 1917.

The ensuing individual soldier's embarkation information contains the following details:

992 Private Geoffrey Huie ARMSTRONG, a 23 year old Overseer from Belgravia, New South Wales. He enlisted on 26 May 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 28 December 1918.

994A Private Gilbert Wardhaugh ATKINSON, a 22 year old Teacher from Wooloowin, Queensland. He enlisted on 1 July 1915; and subsequently was Discharged in Egypt, 30 August 1919.

 

995A Private Max Wilhelm BLACK, a 28 year old Labourer from New Farm, Queensland. He enlisted on 1 July 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 4 March 1919.

997A Private James Hyde BOSANQUET, a 22 year old Cane Farmer from Childers, Queensland. He enlisted on 1 July 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 21 November 1916.

1009A Private Charles Edward BRAHAM, a 21 year old Harness maker from Prospect, South Australia. He enlisted on 30 June 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 24 June 1916.

996A Private Clifford Le Brun BROWN, a 25 year old Station Overseer from Inverell, New South Wales. He enlisted on 30 June 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 28 April 1918.

998A Private Norman George BURNETT, a 26 year old Cattle buyer from Brisbane, Queensland. He enlisted on 26 June 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 12 April 1916.

 

999 Private Edward James CLEMENTS, an 18 year old Horse breaker from Mackay, Queensland. He enlisted on 2 July 1915; and subsequently Died of Wounds, 19 April 1917.

1000A Private James Joseph COFFEY, a 27 year old Stockman from Tipperary, Ireland. He enlisted on 22 June 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 12 July 1918.

1027 Private Frank William Farrar CRAIG, a 22 year old Telegraphist from Northcote, Victoria. He enlisted on 18 June 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 7 February 1919.

 

1002A Private James Thomas DANN, a 24 year old Plumber from Cloncurry, Queensland. He enlisted on 1 July 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 2 March 1919.

1001A Private Peter DAWSON, a 32 year old Labourer from Wollongong, New South Wales. He enlisted on 25 June 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 2 September 1916.

 

1003A Private John Vincent EASTGATE, a 21 year old Labourer from Mackay, Queensland. He enlisted on 1 July 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 24 July 1919.

14th Australian Light Horse Regiment, AIF, 34th Reinforcements, embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board HMAT A38 Ulysses 19 December 1917. This Reinforcement Group was absorbed into the 12th Australian Light Horse Regiment, AIF.

The HMAT A38 Ulysses weighed 14,499 tons with an average cruise speed of 14 knots or 25.92 kmph. It was owned by the China Mutual SN Co, London, and leased by the Commonwealth until 15 August 1917.

HMAT A69 Warilda

 

11th Australian Light Horse Regiment, AIF, 5th Reinforcements Warilda Group, embarked from Brisbane, Queensland on board HMAT A69 Warilda 5 October 1915.

The HMAT A69 Warilda weighed 7,713 tons with an average cruise speed of 16 knots or 29.63 kmph. It was owned by the Adelaide SS Co Ltd, Adelaide, and manned by Australian officers and mainly by Australian crews. The Warilda was torpedoed and sunk by a submarine in the English Channel, 3 August 1918.

The HMAT A70 Ballarat weighed 11,120 tons with an average cruise speed of 14 knots or 25.92 kmph. It was owned by the P & O SN Co, London. The Ballarat was torpedoed by a submarine in the English Channel, 25 April 1917 and sank the next day.
