HMAT A30 Borda

 

11th Australian Light Horse Regiment, AIF, 1st Reinforcements Borda Group, embarked from Adelaide, South Australia on board HMAT A30 Borda 23 June 1915.

The HMAT A30 Borda weighed 11,136 tons with an average cruise speed of 14 knots or 25.92 kmph. It was owned by the P & O SN Co, London, and leased by the Commonwealth until 10 September 1917.

The ensuing individual soldier's embarkation information contains the following details:

758 Private Leslie Robert COCKS, a 19 year old Labourer from Mt Gambier, South Australia. He enlisted on 6 January 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 20 July 1919.

 

760 Private Perry Thomas DAVIS, a 20 year old Labourer from Murray Bridge, South Australia. He enlisted on 7 January 1915; and subsequently Died of Wounds, 27 November 1917.

 

762 Private Edmond ENGLISH, a 29 year old Labourer from Mt Gambier, South Australia. He enlisted on 5 January 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 4 March 1919.

763 Private Lawrence ENGLISH, a 22 year old Butcher from Mt Gambier, South Australia. He enlisted on 5 January 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 20 July 1919.

 

769 Private Harold Norman JARRETT, a 24 year old Labourer from Glenelg, South Australia. He enlisted on 9 December 1914; and subsequently Died of Wounds, 16 September 1915, and subsequently was buried at sea.

770 Private Joseph James JOHNSON, a 21 year old Mechanic from Port Wakefield, South Australia. He enlisted on 13 January 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 20 September 1919.

 

773 Private George Samson LASLETT, a 21 year old Labourer from Mt Gambier, South Australia. He enlisted on 5 January 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 6 July 1919.

776 Private Denis Stanlislav MURPHY, a 27 year old Labourer from Edithburgh, South Australia. He enlisted on 6 January 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 17 July 1919.

 

784 Private William Stark POOL, a 19 year old Stockman from Nanango, Queensland. He enlisted on 30 December 1914; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 20 July 1919.

 

791 Private William Oscar SEARLES, a 23 year old Steward from Mildura, Victoria. He enlisted on 4 January 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 20 July 1919.

 

750 Private Spencer Roy WARD, a 23 year old Miner from Edithburgh, South Australia. He enlisted on 6 January 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 30 August 1918.

HMAT A7 Medic

 

11th Australian Light Horse Regiment, AIF, 1st Reinforcements Medic Group, embarked from Brisbane, Queensland on board HMAT A7 Medic 2 June 1915.

The HMAT A7 Medic weighed 12,032 tons with an average cruise speed of 13 knots or 24.07 kmph. It was owned by the Oceanic SN Co Ltd, Liverpool, and leased by the Commonwealth until 26 October 1917. The Medic was well known by the Australian forces as it was a key troopship for Australia during the Boer War, some 14 years before the re-engagement.

The ensuing individual soldier's embarkation information contains the following details:

A note on copyright

The Australian Light Horse Studies Centre is a not for profit and non profit group whose sole aim is to write the early history of the Australian Light Horse from 1900 - 1920. It is privately funded and the information is provided by the individuals within the group and while permission for the use of the material has been given for this site for these items by various donors, the residual and actual copyright for these items, should there be any, resides exclusively with the donors. The information on this site is freely available for private research use only and if used as such, should be appropriately acknowledged. To assist in this process, each item has a citation attached at the bottom for referencing purposes.
