HMAT A20 Hororata

 

12th Australian Light Horse Regiment, AIF, 9th Reinforcements, embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board HMAT A20 Hororata 2 May 1916.

The HMAT A20 Hororata weighed 9,400 tons with an average cruise speed of 14 knots or 25.92 kmph. It was owned by the New Zealand Shipping Co Ltd, London, and leased by the Commonwealth until 11 September 1917.

The ensuing individual soldier's embarkation information contains the following details:

Rank on embarkation;

Full name of the soldier

Declared age of the soldier;

The last occupation held;

The last address as a civilian;

Enlistment Date; and,

Fate.

1793 Private Reginald George BALDWIN, a 22 year old Station hand from Sydney, New South Wales. He enlisted on 22 December 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 12 November 1917.

1782 Private Albert BARCLAY, a 43 year old Wharf Labourer from Ultimo, New South Wales. He enlisted on 20 January 1916; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 1 January 1919.

1761 Private Charles Alexander Stephen BENNETT, a 37 year old Farm Labourer from Liverpool, New South Wales. He enlisted on 10 January 1916; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 27 June 1919.

1773 Private Harold Leslie BREWER, a 22 year old Carter from Kensington, New South Wales. He enlisted on 14 February 1916; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 23 July 1919.

 

1763 Private Angus Robert CAMERON, an 18 year old Grazier from Pidgee Millie via Narrabri, New South Wales. He enlisted on 30 December 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 7 April 1919.

1762 Private Arthur King CAMERON, a 19 year old Grazier from Pidgee Millie via Narrabri, New South Wales. He enlisted on 10 January 1916; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 24 July 1919.

1783 Private Harold CAMPION, a 21 year old Grocer from Muswellbrook, New South Wales. He enlisted on 25 September 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 26 July 1919.

1764 Private William CAVEN, a 23 year old Billiard maker from Erskineville, New South Wales. He enlisted on 18 January 1916; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 12 July 1918.

1784 Private John Philip CULLEN, a 25 year old Shearer from Paddington, New South Wales. He enlisted on 26 January 1916; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 24 July 1919.

 

1766 Private Evan DAVIES, a 25 year old Labourer from Sydney, New South Wales. He enlisted on 10 January 1916; and subsequently Died of Disease, 12 January 1919.

1767 Private Roderick DEWAR, a 42 year old Driver from Camperdown, New South Wales. He enlisted on 20 January 1916; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 12 November 1917.

1785 Private George Bede Leonard DICK, a 27 year old Labourer from Kogarah, New South Wales. He enlisted on 30 December 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 20 July 1919.

1765 Private Leslie Lynn DOUGLAS, a 33 year old Farmer from Castle Hill, New South Wales. He enlisted on 14 January 1916; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 20 July 1919.

 

1774 Private Hugh Basil Knox EDWARDES, a 21 year old Farmer from North Sydney, New South Wales. He enlisted on 14 February 1916; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 25 April 1919.

 

1775 Private Frank FRETUS, a 36 year old Stonemason from Sutherland, New South Wales. He enlisted on 1 December 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 23 September 1916.

1786 Private Martin FROST, a 26 year old Shearer from Bundarra, New South Wales. He enlisted on 17 September 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 4 March 1919.

 

1787 Private Rowland William IBELL, a 26 year old Carter from Petersham, New South Wales. He enlisted on 17 January 1916; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 4 March 1919.

1788 Private Robert Ernest INGLIS, a 25 year old Grazier from Haberfield, New South Wales. He enlisted on 26 November 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 24 July 1919.

1789 Acting Corporal Thomas Leslie INGLIS, a 23 year old Bank clerk from Haberfield, New South Wales. He enlisted on 16 December 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 24 July 1919.

 

1790 Private Charles Melbourne LOCKE, a 33 year old Labourer from Eungai Creek via Kempsey, New South Wales. He enlisted on 23 November 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 4 March 1919.

1770 Private Herbert MITCHELL, a 24 year old Carpenter from Boolaroo via Cockle Creek, New South Wales. He enlisted on 13 January 1916; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 20 July 1919.

 

1777 Private Cameron Malcolm NICHOLSON, a 19 year old Blacksmith from Bondi, New South Wales. He enlisted on 20 January 1916; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 15 November 1919.

 

1778 Private John Philip O'BIERNE, a 43 year old Butcher from Katoomba, New South Wales. He enlisted on 14 February 1916; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 20 July 1919.

RMS Mongolia

 

12th Australian Light Horse Regiment, AIF, 10th Reinforcements, embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board RMS Mongolia 8 July 1916.

The RMS Mongolia weighed 4,892 tons with an average cruise speed of 12 knots or 22.22 kmph. It was owned by the  Indian & Peninsular St. Nav Co Ltd Glasgow.  Torpedoed and sunk on 21 July 1918.

The ensuing individual soldier's embarkation information contains the following details:
