HMAT A43 Barunga

 

Imperial Camel Corps, AIF, October 1916 Reinforcement, embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board HMAT A43 Barunga 20 October 1916.

The HMAT A43 Barunga weighed 7,484 tons with an average cruise speed of 11 knots or 20.37 kmph. The Barunga was previously a captured German vessel called Sumatra. It was manned by Australia officers and crew. The Barunga was torpedoed and sunk by a submarine in the North Atlantic, 15 July 1918.

The ensuing individual soldier's embarkation information contains the following details:

Declared age of the soldier;

The last occupation held;

The last address as a civilian;

Enlistment Date; and,

Fate.

1265 Private John DOUGLAS, a 21 year old Labourer from North Manilla, New South Wales. He enlisted on 15 May 1916; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 24 July 1919.

 

1268 Private William Henry FITZGERALD, a 36 year old Labourer from Carroll, New South Wales. He enlisted on 10 May 1916; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 15 February 1918.

1238 Private Arthur William FORSTER, a 21 year old Farmer from Dungog, New South Wales. He enlisted on 11 January 1916; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 24 July 1919.

 

1253 Private Harold Ernest GILMOUR, an 18 year old Farmer from Guyra, New South Wales. He enlisted on 11 May 1916; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 13 March 1919.

1250 Private John Stanley GREEN, a 20 year old Labourer from Dungalea via Walgett, New South Wales. He enlisted on 13 April 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 26 July 1919.

1256 Private Robert James HONEYSETT, a 21 year old Labourer from Cudgegong via Gulgong, New South Wales. He enlisted on 15 May 1916; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 4 March 1919.

1244 Private George William HULLEY, a 30 year old Motor driver from Newtown, New South Wales. He enlisted on 16 December 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 10 July 1919.

1251 Private Donald Alexander MORRISON, a 21 year old Horse breaker from Beechworth, Victoria. He enlisted on 13 November 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 23 January 1919.

HMAT A7 Medic

 

Imperial Camel Corps, AIF, November 1916 Reinforcement Medic Group 1st Military District, embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board HMAT A7 Medic 12 December 1916, then re-embarked from Melbourne, Victoria on board HMAT A44 Vestalia on 15 December 1916. (See: November 1916 Reinforcement Vestalia Group.)

The HMAT A7 Medic weighed 12,032 tons with an average cruise speed of 13 knots or 24.07 kmph. It was owned by the Oceanic SN Co Ltd, Liverpool, and leased by the Commonwealth until 26 October 1917. The Medic was well known by the Australian forces as it was a key troopship for Australia during the Boer War, some 14 years before the re-engagement.

Imperial Camel Corps, AIF, November 1916 Reinforcement Medic Group 2nd Military District, embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board HMAT A7 Medic 12 December 1916, then re-embarked from Melbourne, Victoria on board HMAT A44 Vestalia on 15 December 1916. (See: November 1916 Reinforcement Vestalia Group.)

The HMAT A7 Medic weighed 12,032 tons with an average cruise speed of 13 knots or 24.07 kmph. It was owned by the Oceanic SN Co Ltd, Liverpool, and leased by the Commonwealth until 26 October 1917. The Medic was well known by the Australian forces as it was a key troopship for Australia during the Boer War, some 14 years before the re-engagement.
