HMAT A18 Wiltshire

 

The General Service Reinforcements, 2nd GSR, New South Wales, embarked from Sydney, New South Wales, on board the HMAT A18 Wiltshire 10 June 1918.

The HMAT A18 Wiltshire weighed 10,390 tons with an average cruise speed of 13.5 knots or 25.00 kmph. It was owned by the Commonwealth & Dominion Line Ltd, London, and leased by the Commonwealth until 2 October 1917.

The ensuing individual soldier's embarkation information contains the following details:

Rank on embarkation;

Full name of the soldier

Declared age of the soldier;

The last occupation held;

The last address as a civilian;

Enlistment Date; and,

Fate.

52684 Private Arthur James BASSETT, a 22 year old Carpenter from Melbourne, Victoria. He enlisted on 2 February 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 2nd Light Horse Field Squadron Engineers; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 17 July 1919.

52688 Private Harry BEAUMONT, a 36 year old Builder from Sydney, New South Wales. He enlisted on 6 April 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the "D" Field Troop & Bridge Train; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 14 March 1919.

52687 Private Edward Claude BELL, an 18 year old Blacksmith from St Peters, New South Wales. He enlisted on 14 February 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 14th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 26 July 1919.

52685 Private Albert Frederick BLACK, an 18 year old Carter from Sydney, New South Wales. He enlisted on 7 January 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 12th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 24 July 1919.

52683 Private Louis Albert BROMHAM, an 18 year old Teacher from Coolamon, New South Wales. He enlisted on 2 February 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 12th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 24 July 1919.

52686 Private Wally Vincent BURN, a 24 year old Jockey from Coogee, New South Wales. He enlisted on 21 January 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 7th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 27 June 1919.

 

52693 Private Vince CARR, a 34 year old Clerk from Sydney, New South Wales. He enlisted on 12 February 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 2nd Light Horse Machine Gun Squadron; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 27 June 1919.

52694 Private Cuthbert Evelyn CHAMBERS, a 26 year old Station Hand from Brisbane, Queensland. He enlisted on 5 March 1916. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 7th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 27 June 1919.

52698 Private Harold CHILDS, a 28 year old Teacher from Marrickville, New South Wales. He enlisted on 23 January 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 4th Light Horse Signa Troop; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 20 July 1919.

52697 Private Stephen COFFEY, a 21 year old Labourer from Sydney, New South Wales. He enlisted on 11 February 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 14th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 24 July 1919.

52695 Private Charles Gilbert COLE, an 18 year old Labourer from Harden, New South Wales. He enlisted on 13 February 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 14th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 29 April 1919.

52696 Private Samuel CONNOLLY, a 20 year old Labourer from Newcastle, New South Wales. He enlisted on 28 January 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 1st Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 13 March 1919.

52691 Private Thomas McDonough CORBETT, a 28 year old Bank Clerk from Sydney, New South Wales. He enlisted on 13 August 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the Australian Mounted Division; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 24 July 1919.

52690 Private Douglas Hector Macdonald CROLL, an 18 year old Iron Monger from Rockdale, New South Wales. He enlisted on 14 February 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 1st Light Horse Machine Gun Squadron; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 15 May 1919.

52689 Pre Bede Stephen CROWE, an 18 year old Grazier from Sydney, New South Wales. He enlisted on 24 January 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 7th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 7 June 1919.

 

52699 Private Robert Reginald DARGAN, an 18 year old Bank Clerk from North Sydney, New South Wales. He enlisted on 29 June 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 14th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 24 July 1919.

52701 Private George Victor DELANEY, a 21 year old Fireman from Sydney, New South Wales. He enlisted on 21 January 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 1st Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 13 March 1919.

52700 Private Joseph Thomas DELANEY, a 31 year old Labourer from Granville, New South Wales. He enlisted on 12 October 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 12th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 20 July 1919.

 

52704 Private William EDWARDS, a 21 year old Grocer from Sydney, New South Wales. He enlisted on 29 January 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 1st Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 13 March 1919.

52703 Private Benjamin Willoughby ERRATT, a 40 year old Farmer from Burwood, New South Wales. He enlisted on 6 February 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 12th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 20 July 1919.

 

52705 Private Harrison Goodenough FALLON, a 19 year old Student from Kempsey, New South Wales. He enlisted on 29 January 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 1st Light Horse Machine Gun Squadron; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 6 October 1919.

52706 Private Harold Hughes FURNER, an 18 year old Grazier from Sydney, New South Wales. He enlisted on 18 February 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 1st Light Horse Machine Gun Squadron; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 15 May 1919.

 

52709 Private Edward Albert GIBSON, a 19 year old Labourer from Newtown, New South Wales. He enlisted on 8 June 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 7th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 28 June 1919.

52707 Private William GILCRIST, a 35 year old Horse Breaker from Liverpool, New South Wales. He enlisted on 13 February 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 12th Light Horse Regiment; and subsequently Returned to Australia 20 July 1918.

52708 Private George Harold GRAY, a 25 year old Motor Mechanic from Sydney, New South Wales. He enlisted on 11 November 1916. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 7th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 3 July 1919.

52682 Private William GREY, a 33 year old Clerk from Sydney, New South Wales. He enlisted on 30 October 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 4th Light Horse Machine Gun Squadron; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 24 July 1919.

 

52714 Private James Albert HAUBER, a 21 year old Butcher from Bowral, New South Wales. He enlisted on 8 January 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 32nd Company Australian Army Supply Corps Anzac Mounted Division Train; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 26 July 1919.

52716 Private Keith HAYES, an 18 year old Bank Clerk from Sydney, New South Wales. He enlisted on 3 January 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 1st Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 13 March 1919.

52715 Private Malcolm McGregor HENDERSON, a 38 year old Grazier from Sydney, New South Wales. He enlisted on 1 December 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 14th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 24 July 1919.

52717 Private Patrick HOARE, a 32 year old Labourer from Moss Vale, New South Wales. He enlisted on 5 February 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 12th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 20 July 1919.

52710 Private George Joseph Patrick HUNT, an 18 year old Rail Porter from Bathurst, New South Wales. He enlisted on 3 December 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 6th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 29 April 1919.

 

52718 Private Sefton Errol INGRAM, a 23 year old Grazier from Inverell, New South Wales. He enlisted on 30 November 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the Desert Mounted Corps Rest Camp; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 10 April 1919.

 

52719 Private Vernon L'ESTRANGE, a 40 year old Labourer from Canterbury, New South Wales. He enlisted on 11 February 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 14th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 16 January 1919.

52720 Private Oswald John LONGHURST, a 21 year old Farmer from Sydney, New South Wales. He enlisted on 31 January 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 14th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 24 July 1919.

 

52730 Private William John MAGILL, a 19 year old Farmer from Parkes, New South Wales. He enlisted on 22 February 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 12th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 20 July 1919.

52765 Private Daniel MAHONEY, a 26 year old Labourer from Kurrajong, New South Wales. He enlisted on 25 April 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 7th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 29 April 1919.

52729 Private Vincent George MARTIN, an 18 year old Carpenter from Paddington, New South Wales. He enlisted on 25 January 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 1st Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 4 March 1919.

52905 Private Ronald Campbell THOMSON, a 28 year old Farmer from Smithfield, South Australia. He enlisted on 5 December 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 3rd Light Horse Machine Gun Squadron; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 1 November 1919.

 

52906 Private Philip WINDLE, a 29 year old Engineer from Adelaide, South Australia. He enlisted on 26 January 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 1st Light Horse Machine Gun Squadron; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 15 May 1919.

HMAT A18 Wiltshire

 

The General Service Reinforcements, 2nd GSR, Tasmania, embarked from Sydney, New South Wales, on board the HMAT A18 Wiltshire 10 June 1918.

The HMAT A18 Wiltshire weighed 10,390 tons with an average cruise speed of 13.5 knots or 25.00 kmph. It was owned by the Commonwealth & Dominion Line Ltd, London, and leased by the Commonwealth until 2 October 1917.

The ensuing individual soldier's embarkation information contains the following details:

Rank on embarkation;

Full name of the soldier

Declared age of the soldier;

The last occupation held;

The last address as a civilian;

Enlistment Date; and,

Fate.

52941 Private James George BRICKNELL, a 19 year old Labourer from Devonport, Tasmania. He enlisted on 11 May 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 3rd Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 15 May 1919.

 

52942 Private Rupert Otto GERKE, a 25 year old Farmer from Scottsdale, Tasmania. He enlisted on 30 April 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 3rd Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 5 March 1919.

52943 Private Wilfred Ludwick GERKE, a 19 year old Farmer from Scottsdale, Tasmania. He enlisted on 2 March 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 3rd Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 5 May 1919.

 

52944 Private Robert William HEMPSEED, a 19 year old Butcher from Hobart, Tasmania. He enlisted on 18 March 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 3rd Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 15 May 1919.

52945 Private William Bertram HEPBURN, a 35 year old Horse Trainer and Jockey from Hobart, Tasmania. He enlisted on 10 April 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 3rd Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Discharged 16 May 1919.

52947 Private Charles Henry HURD, an 18 year old Farmer from Claremont, Tasmania. He enlisted on 7 February 1916. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 3rd Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 15 May 1919.

 

56557 Private Rene Maurel JACK, a 21 year old Carpenter from Launceston, Tasmania. He enlisted on 8 April 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 40th Infantry Battalion; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 22 July 1919.

 

52946 Private Robert Henry ROSSENDELL, a 33 year old Carrier from Glenorchy, Tasmania. He enlisted on 15 April 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 3rd Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 16 May 1919.

 

52948 Private Max WILLING, a 19 year old Carpenter from Hobart, Tasmania. He enlisted on 13 April 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 2nd Light Horse Field Squadron Engineers; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 26 July 1919.
