RMS Mooltan

2nd Australian Light Horse Regiment, AIF, 21st Reinforcements, embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board RMS Mooltan 19 August 1916.

The RMS Mooltan weighed 9,621 tons with an average cruise speed of 18.5 knots or 34.26 kmph. It was owned by the P & O SN Co, London. On 26 July 1917, the RMS Mooltan was torpedoed and sunk by UC27.

The ensuing individual soldier's embarkation information contains the following details:

Rank on embarkation;

Full name of the soldier;

Declared age of the soldier;

The last occupation held;

The last address as a civilian;

Enlistment Date; and,

Fate.

2930 Private Roy Jesse BRANT, an 18 year old Clerk from Hillside Estate, Queensland. He enlisted on 5 April 1916; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 20 July 1919.

 

2931 Private Roy CAVANAUGH, a 24 year old Book keeper from Burringbar, New South Wales. He enlisted on 17 April 1916; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 13 March 1919.

2932 Private Reginald David CLARKE, a 20 year old Farmer from West Kyogle, New South Wales. He enlisted on 24 April 1916; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 12 June 1919.

 

2935 Private Alexander James DALE, a 23 year old Grocers assistant from Ipswich, Queensland. He enlisted on 24 January 1916; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 30 August 1918.

2933 Private Joseph DENNY, a 22 year old Labourer from Roadvale via Ipswich, Queensland. He enlisted on 7 February 1916; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 14 March 1919.

2934 Private Frank Bays DEVINE, a 25 year old Grazier from Gradual Siding, Queensland. He enlisted on 7 September 1915; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 16 March 1919.

 

2936 Private David Ronald EDWARDS, a 24 year old Selector from Marathon Siding. He enlisted on 31 January 1916; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 13 March 1919.

 

Second Lieutenant Leo Bede GUIREN, a 27 year old Grazier from Interment camp Enoggera, Queensland. He enlisted on 1 April 1916; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 13 March 1919.

 

2937 Private Arthur Sydney HARDWICK, a 21 year old Labourer from Esplanade. He enlisted on 26 April 1916; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 28 January 1919.

2941 Private John Thomas HARDWICK, a 24 year old Labourer from Esplanade, Queensland. He enlisted on 17 April 1916; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 13 March 1919.

2938 Private Thomas HARRIS, a 22 year old Farmer from Homebush, Queensland. He enlisted on 8 April 1916; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 13 March 1919.

2939 Private Andrew HEPBURN, a 19 year old Farmer from Kerrong via Lismore, New South Wales. He enlisted on 18 January 1916; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 13 March 1919.

2940 Private Charles Henry HOTCHIN, an 18 year old Carter from Brisbane, Queensland. He enlisted on 27 March 1916; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 12 July 1918.

 

2942 Private William James ISON, a 39 year old Rail store keeper from Malanda, Queensland. He enlisted on 15 April 1916; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 12 November 1917.

 

2943 Private Ernest William KIDD, a 41 year old Ploughman from Mossman, Queensland. He enlisted on 8 April 1916; and subsequently was Killed in Action, 12 April 1918.

 

2944 Private Richard Alexander LAWRIE, an 18 year old Clerk from Binna Burra, New South Wales. He enlisted on 7 January 1916; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 20 July 1919.

2945 Private Charles Henry LEICHT, a 26 year old Farmer from Neulba, Queensland. He enlisted on 21 January 1916; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 22 January 1917.

 

2946 Private Thomas MASON, an 18 year old Customs officer from Paddington, New South Wales. He enlisted on 29 March 1916; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 24 July 1919.

2950 Private Peter Givens McGREGOR, a 22 year old Labourer from Woolloongabba, Queensland. He enlisted on 18 April 1916; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 17 July 1919.

2957 Private Bertie George RIXON, a 22 year old Farmer from Eden Creek via Kyogle, New South Wales. He enlisted on 14 April 1916; and subsequently was Killed in Action, 14 July 1918.

 

2959 Private Harold Oscar TEALE, a 20 year old Labourer from Miles, Queensland. He enlisted on 10 January 1916; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 29 April 1919.

 

2927 Acting Corporal Ellis Charles WEBB, a 23 year old Farmer from PO Mackay, Queensland. He enlisted on 16 March 1916; and subsequently was Discharged in Britain, 28 October 1919.

2960 Private James WHITEHEAD, a 20 year old Carpenter from Booval, Queensland. He enlisted on 27 March 1916; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 13 March 1919.

 

2961 Private James YOUNG, a 25 year old Farmer from Eureka, New South Wales. He enlisted on 15 April 1916; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 13 March 1919.

HMAT A43 Barunga

2nd Australian Light Horse Regiment, AIF, 22nd Reinforcements, embarked from Brisbane, Queensland on board HMAT A43 Barunga 26 October 1916.

The HMAT A43 Barunga weighed 7,484 tons with an average cruise speed of 11 knots or 20.37 kmph. The Barunga was previously a captured German vessel called Sumatra. It was manned by Australia officers and crew. The Barunga was torpedoed and sunk by a submarine in the North Atlantic, 15 July 1918.

The ensuing individual soldier's embarkation information contains the following details:

3182 Private Theodore KENNEDY, an 18 year old Electrician from Wooloowin, Queensland. He enlisted on 16 May 1916; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 23 December 1918.

 

3183 Private William John LANE, a 25 year old Horse breaker from Longreach, Queensland. He enlisted on 9 June 1916; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 5 March 1919.

3167 Private Cecil Gordon LANSDOWN, a 28 year old Grazier from Kinkern, Queensland. He enlisted on 7 January 1916; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 18 February 1919.

3197 Private Daniel LEE, a 42 year old Shearer from Amby, Queensland. He enlisted on 23 August 1916; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 2 January 1919.

 

3184 Private William Anthony MAUGHAN, a 19 year old Farmer from Lismore, New South Wales. He enlisted on 10 July 1916; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 13 March 1919.

3185 Private Colin Norman McLEOD, a 25 year old Station hand from Toowoomba, Queensland. He enlisted on 17 February 1916; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 13 March 1919.

 

3187 Private George William ORCHARD, a 27 year old Stockman from Mirani, Queensland. He enlisted on 10 June 1916; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 13 March 1919.

 

3189 Private Christian PETERSEN, a 22 year old Farmer from Murwillumbah, New South Wales. He enlisted on 13 November 1916; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 30 August 1918.

3188 Private Norman Edward Arthur POPE, a 25 year old Labourer from Yeerongpilly, Queensland. He enlisted on 21 September 1916; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 22 July 1919.

 

3190 Private Michael RAVENSBY, a 39 year old Labourer from Toowoomba, Queensland. He enlisted on 3 January 1916; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 14 March 1919.

 

3201 Private John William SHEA, a 22 year old Stockman from Miles, Queensland. He enlisted on 21 September 1916; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 10 March 1919.

3192 Private Arthur James SIMS, a 28 year old Farmer from Murwillumbah, New South Wales. He enlisted on 10 June 1916; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 15 February 1918.

3191 Private Arthur Neville SPENCER, a 23 year old Storeman from Clayfield, Queensland. He enlisted on 10 July 1916; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 29 April 1919.

3168 Private William STENHOUSE, a 45 year old Cooper from Toowoomba, Queensland. He enlisted on 10 August 1916; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 12 November 1917.

3200 Private Edwin Albert STONE, a 38 year old Stockman from Woolloongabba, Queensland. He enlisted on 28 April 1916; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 12 July 1918.

3166 Private Patrick John SULLIVAN, a 24 year old Farmer from Sugar Loaf, Queensland. He enlisted on 9 February 1916; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 13 March 1919.

 

3194 Private George VOLP, a 22 year old Labourer from Highfield via Toowoomba, Queensland. He enlisted on 17 April 1916; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 4 March 1919.

3193 Private Henry Ernest VOLP, a 23 year old Engine driver from Meringandan via Toowoomba, Queensland. He enlisted on 20 April 1916; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 16 May 1919.
