There are a couple of possiblities there. 13th LHR served in France throughout the war and part of 4th light horse regiment was sent to france after Gallipoli. A lot of soldiers transfered from light horse units to other units so they could go to france.
The best place to start is to get his service record..... check out the Australian War Memorial site for details, or if you have his unit details read up on the history of his regiment.
