I am the granddaughter and great niece of four survivors of the 1st Light Horse Regiment. My grandfather, Trooper, later 2LT, Tom (GTH)Harris served in Sinai/Palestine, his three brothers, Maj Geoff Harris, Sgt Vern Harris and Capt Clem Harris went to Gallipoli and then on to Sinai/Palestine campaigns. The family came from Wermatong Station, Tumut. All four returned. Tom met my grandmother, Staff Nurse Bessie Proudfoot, while in hospital in Cairo. Maj Geoff Harris had also been to the Boer War as part of the Australian Horse. I believe he led the parade in Sydney on Anzac Day for many years.
