It might be nice if you identified yourself?? Some of your comments are well reasoned but you seem to be obsessed with blaming and charging everyone else. Thomas made some major blunders, one being that the defendants could have been aquited if he had requested it. They had assisted in the defence of the post while under charge and according to custom established by Wellington, any soldier under charge who performed creditably in the face of the enemy could be deemed to have wiped out his misdemenour; Thomas failed to site this custom! There was certainly faults all round and if you look at the origins of the war it was an unjust war! Refer the artcle in the Oct 1999 edition of Spur on the causes and Australias reasons for being involved in the war.
