The daily pay for privates and troopers was 6/- per day. I do have the details of all ranks pay but cant lay my hands on it instantly,,,,,,,, will dig it out of the files..... it was the opinion of the Government of the day that the men in the service of their country should not be disadvantaged. Therfore the base rate was set at a figure which was ocnsidered to be similar to the average income of a worker plus an allowance for his discomfort. The fact that it was 6 times that paid to the British soldiers was an interesting situation.
