This very famous photograph is also attributed to an Australian sent out to take machine gun ranges. So the story goes that he looked over his shoulder and saw the regiments lined up and took the photograph. I know this is perpetuating the popular myth, but evidence from the photo suggests it was taken at the right time of year (hay cut in foreground and at LH wings' hooves) and groupings are correct. (Beauchop (?) on the right with the cap on his head.) I can't help (confused the issue) further as I am doing this from memory.
