A Turkish flag was captured, I think at Magdhaba (or beersheeba) by members of the 8th Light Horse (A Captain Walker ended up with it for some period of time.) there are photos of this flag in AWM and in a recently published book on the diary and photos of George Auchterlonie of the 8th Light Horse. He took the photo, a copy of which was sent to my Great Grandfather's sister and which my father still has. My Grandfather, Charles Fitzpatrick was a Scout in the 8th Light Horse Regt and was one of 2 troopers photographed by Gearge Auchterlonie holding up the flag between their horses. I don't know if there is a connection between this and the standard you mention captured by the 9th. - It may have been a combined action of the 8th/9th at which the flag was captured. regards, Shaun Fitzpatrick
