I am searching for the personnel record of Herbert Laurence COOKE born 3rd October 1904 in London. He came to Oz in 1921 and joined what is believed to be the Aust. Light Horse. This is a guesstimate as the photos we have of him in uniform appear to be that of the Light Horse. Mother was Amelia Cooke and father Edwin James Cooke. During his time in the army he attained the rank of Sargeant. He left Australia to return to England in 1929, embarking in Brisbane. He apparently moved around Australia with the Army and was believed to be in the Mounted Police.

To date I have searched the records at East Burwood where each book holds 6 months of pay lists. I searched spasmodically over the years 1923-1925, eg 6 months here, 6 months there however he wasn't to be found. The regiments I searched were anything that was mounted including the Light Horse.

I have also been in touch with the Australian Light Horse Regiment Museum who were most helpful. The uniform appears to be that of the Light Horse and the patch colourings of dark on top an light underneath appear to be a Victorian Regiment.

It seems to be a difficult period in history as it wasn't during a war. I would appreciate any assistance as his daughter is getting on now and would like to know about her father's time here in Oz. I have two photos of him, both in uniform, one with a Trooper A.D. Horsby and the other solo on horseback.
