I find this term used in this context to be both improper and disrespectful to those men who either enlisted in the AIF's Field Artillery or who were drafted into the artillery as reinforcements. Every man (and woman) of the AIF was a VOLUNTEER and each had a job to do and they did it! The artillery men did not 'dress as light horsemen' as you have incorrectly implied. The uniform issued consisted of leather leggings and the five pouch fifty round leather bandolier.
