To Whom it May Concern: you are spot on with your comments! Australia has some 'sacred cows', among the herd being the Australian War Memorial and the RSL. Say anything about either of them, and be it not to their liking, then you can expect to be crucified and your name (for want of better word) becomes mud. I know, it has happened to me, but I do not need the RSL as much as that organisation needs my knowledge of Boer War and First World War history and my knowledge of the local contribution to those conflicts. What would you think the message from the RSL is when a particular (and nameless) RSL Sub-Branch returns the list of service details of 120 local men who volunteered and served overseas in the South African Boer War, which was sent to them with the suggestion that these men's names be added on a plaque to an existing supposed Transvaal Fountain in the town's local park, and they also tell you that they do not appreciate your 'attitude' to the RSL and not to send them any further information about any of the local men who volunteered and served oversaes during the First World War, be it in the Light Horse, Infantry, Artillery etc. Their loss?!
