For a study of the "haversack" deception at Beersheba (Sept-Oct 1917) I'm seeking leads to information about Australian and British intelligence officers attached to either the Desert Mounted Corps or BEF GHQ -- Capt. Arthur Neate (RA), Lt.-Col. James Dacres Belgrave, Capt. HCH Robertson, a GSO2 named Bell (appointed 8 Aug. 1917 to the DMC), Capt. Ferdinant Tuohy, and Maj. Richard Meinertzhagen. All of them had something to do with the ruse -- to one extent or another. It apparently originated with Belgrave and the satchel actually was dropped by Neate. (Meinertzhagen later claimed credit for it.) Any guidance will be much appreciated. Thanks f'r y'r attention. -- Brian Garfield <briagar@aol.com>
