During the past week (actually it was on Wednesday 19 December 2001) I read an item in the local newspaper about Australia's troops in Afghanistan titled, 'No action as SAS rough it,' and I quote: "Australian troops fighting in Afghanistan are living in grim conditions, dealing with frequent blinding sand storms and temperatures as low as -18(degrees). It makes one wonder how the light horsemen (and the Diggers) faired eighty five years ago with just a great coat, and for the lucky few, a sheep skin vest and woollen balaclava and a pair of goggles?
