Have you ever been in the north of Australia and travelled the distances that motorised off road vehicles can travel and the speed at which they can cover those vast distances? Why do you think that most of the mustering on catttle stations is done by motorbike and helicopter these days. The speed of travel on a horse is not conducive to effective patrolling in wide open spaces. Motorised travel is much more effective. Horses may be effective in more rugged terrain as has been seen in Afganistan in recent months.
