Dont know if it's true other than that Grant probably trotted the first half mile. I dont think it likely that a Brigadier-General, commanding a whole Brigade (3 Regiments) would be involved with prisoner capture etc or anything mundane - he would have other priorities, e.g. strategy, deployment of the Regiments under his command and communication with other Brigades, Divisional HQ & Corps HQ ... Brigadier-General is a very high ranking officier. Regards, Jeremy
