Thanks everyone for the info re badges. The numerous posts were caused by the gremlin in the system.
I have just received the book I ordered from Sth Africa. It really gives a different perspective (some may say biased) on the saga as it includes a lot of primary source info. like letters as well as intelligence reports. I have a greater understanding of why the arguments bounce one way and then the other, especially considering the cruel character of Taylor. The motive is a bit of a stretch, though; to return after the war and live as cattle barons. In any event, I don't think Tim Fischer has much of a chance to clear Morant or Handcock.
