Dear Rob: Many thanks for the info! It sounds as though Lane as a surname is as common perhaps as Smith! Just maybe in all the memoirs written following WW1, somebody mentions meeting "Gerardy" or commented on his poetry. But as you say it could be a tough thing to check out. Although I've been in correspondence with the man who played Lane in this "long lost" film, we still can"t track down the film itself, or the out-of-business Cambridge Films, that disappeared around 1991!
