TOO RIGHT AND TOO HONEST!

TOO RIGHT AND TOO HONEST!

Australians when in training could never be made to look upon the passing of messages other than as a burlesque or comic opera. Several humorous incidents came under my notice during the ''play soldier" process, the most notable being:-

One morning, when in,. Abassia camp. Egypt we were practising "pass it on" in a trench situated between “camp" and the Cairo-Heliopolis' tram line not far from the "Gyppo" parade ground, when a message was given thus:- "Eight hundred! Right! Led horses advancing!''

I got it this way:- “Eight hundred dead horses advancing; Too right! Pass it on."

I remonstrated, but got my answer: "Well that is how it was given to me!"
