The fight at Hill 60 also involved the infantry. The extract from the 17th Infantry Battalion, AIF, for August 1915 indicates the ferocity of the action. This battalion was newly arrived at Gallipoli and with only 10 days to settle in, was thrown into action. The War Diary tells the story.

Major RJA Francis, severely wounded.
