HMAT 42 Boorara

1st Australian Light Horse Regiment, AIF, 13th Reinforcements, embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board HMAT 42 Boorara 20 December 1914

The HMAT 42 Boorara weighed 5,923 tons with an average cruise speed of 10.5 knots or 19.44 kmph. The Boorara was previously a captured German vessel called Pfalz. It was manned by Australia officers and crew and transferred to Commonwealth Government Line, 24 June 1919.

605 Private Harold Louis BAKER, a 22 year old Station hand from 18 Denison Road, Newtown, Sydney, New South Wales. He enlisted on 5 September 1914; and subsequently Died of Wounds, 21 May 1915 and was buried at sea.

633 Private Rowland Charles BAKER, a 30 year old Linesman from Tenterfield, New South Wales. He enlisted on 18 September 1914; and Returned to Australia, 20 October 1915.

624 Private Samuel BAUGH, a 28 year old Horse breaker from Walgett, New South Wales. He enlisted on 25 September 1914; and Returned to Australia, 1 February 1918.

632 Private Percy BILLINGHAM, a 21 year old Farmer from Tallygaroopna Vic. He enlisted on 18 September 1914; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 15 November 1918.

631 Private John BOSEMAN, a 23 year old Farmer from Sydney NSW. He enlisted on 1 September 1914; and subsequently was Killed in Action, 7 August 1915.

 

638 Private Alfred James CLARK, a 19 year old Labourer from North Manly, New South Wales. He enlisted on 7 September 1914; and subsequently Died of Wounds, 27 May 1915 and was buried at sea .

637 Private Chrisopher Addie COMMENS, a 19 year old Farmer from Hartley Vale, New South Wales. He enlisted on 2 September 1914; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 7 January 1919.

635 Lance Corporal Kenrick CONWAY, a 23 year old Barber from Beckom, New South Wales. He enlisted on 5 September 1914; and Returned to Australia, 11 March 1916.

628 Lance Sergeant Eluri Charles CORK, a 21 year old Stockman from The Willows, Lyndhurst, New South Wales. He enlisted on 3 September 1914; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 6 May 1919.

639 Private Edward CROUCH, a 24 year old Horse breaker from Wagga Wagga, New South Wales. He enlisted on 3 September 1914; and Returned to Australia, 23 October 1918.

623 Private Patrick CROUGH, a 22 year old Drill sharpener from Armidale, New South Wales. He enlisted on 12 September 1914; and Returned to Australia, 15 August 1915.

 

657 Private Robert DAVIDSON, a 28 year old Farrier from Oberon, New South Wales. He enlisted on 14 October 1914; and Returned to Australia, 21 July 1917.

606 Private Arthur James Frederick DIXON, a 30 year old Labourer from Hornsby Road, Hemington, Sydney, New South Wales. He enlisted on 3 September 1914; and Returned to Australia, 13 March 1918.

 

607 Private William Hewitt FELL, a 22 year old Labourer from Mt Morgan, Queensland. He enlisted on 1 September 1914; and subsequently Died of Wounds, 4 May 1918.

640 Lance Corporal Cornelius GEILVOET, a 27 year old Stockman from Eden, New South Wales. He enlisted on 9 September 1914; and subsequently Died of Wounds, 24 May 1915.

610 Private James William GIBBS, a 21 year old Station hand from Darby Street, Newcastle, New South Wales. He enlisted on 5 September 1914; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 15 November 1918.
