HMAT A8 Argyllshire

 

1st Australian Light Horse Regiment, AIF, 9th Reinforcements, embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board HMAT A8 Argyllshire 30 September 1915.

The HMAT A8 Argyllshire weighed 10,392 tons with an average cruise speed of 14 knots or 25.92 kmph. It was owned by the Scottish Shire Line Ltd, London, and leased by the Commonwealth until 24 January 1918.

The ensuing individual soldier's embarkation information contains the following details:

Rank on embarkation;

Full name of the soldier

Declared age of the soldier;

The last occupation held;

The last address as a civilian;

Enlistment Date; and,

Fate.

1226 Private Lionel Edgar ASHTON, a 26 year old Farmer from Temora, New South Wales. He enlisted on 18 March 1915; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia 5 April 1919.

 

1230 Private Frederick Robert BARTON, a 21 year old Floor man from Wee Waa, New South Wales. He enlisted on 7 March 1915; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia 13 April 1919.

1229 Private Norman BERRY, a 25 year old Agent from Liverpool, New South Wales. He enlisted on 3 May 1915; and subsequently, Returned to Australia 25 August 1917.

1281 Private Francis Allen BLOOMFIELD, a 21 year old Horse breaker from Wee Waa, New South Wales. He enlisted on 7 March 1915; and subsequently, Returned to Australia 18 December 1918.

1231 Private Frank Sinclair BUTLER, a 23 year old Foreman from Dannes Creek, New South Wales. He enlisted on 9 May 1915; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia 13 March 1919.

 

1236 Private Michael CLANCY, a 35 year old Horse breaker from Newtown, New South Wales. He enlisted on 21 April 1915; and subsequently, Returned to Australia 5 April 1917.

1235 Private Lionel Robert CLARKE, a 22 year old Carter from Mascot, New South Wales. He enlisted on 3 May 1915; and subsequently, Died of Wounds 3 August 1917.

1237 Private William Edward COMMONS, a 25 year old Labourer from Delegate, New South Wales. He enlisted on 10 May 1915; and subsequently, Returned to Australia 12 November 1916.

1238 Private Harry CONLON, a 21 year old Farmer from Liverpool, New South Wales. He enlisted on 26 April 1915; and subsequently, Returned to Australia 31 October 1917.

1279 Private Norman Thomas CORREY, an 18 year old Traveller from Concord, New South Wales. He enlisted on 12 July 1915; and subsequently, Returned to Australia 28 November 1918.

1239 Private Francis CURLEY, an 18 year old Motor driver from Leichhardt, New South Wales. He enlisted on 18 July 1915; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia 3 March 1919.

 

1284 Private Arthur Napier DONNELLY, a 20 year old Labourer from Eden, New South Wales. He enlisted on 5 August 1915; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia 11 May 1919.

 

1240 Private Leslie EBSWORTH, a 23 year old Law Clerk from Orange, New South Wales. He enlisted on 9 May 1915; and subsequently was, Killed in Action 15 October 1917.

1277 Private William EGAN, a 21 year old Groom from Goulburn, New South Wales. He enlisted on 8 April 1915; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia 24 January 1919.

 

1241 Private Ralph Stewart FAIREY, a 35 year old Overseer from East Adelaide, South Australia. He enlisted on 13 February 1915; and subsequently, Returned to Australia 21 July 1918.

 

1242 Private James William GALAGHER, a 19 year old Grazier from Capertree, New South Wales. He enlisted on 29 April 1915; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia 23 March 1919.

1243 Private Hugh Rusden GILMAN, a 40 year old Surveyor from Wagga, New South Wales. He enlisted on 14 July 1915; and subsequently, Returned to Australia 26 September 1917.

1283 Private John GRAHAM, a 40 year old Farmer from Sydney, New South Wales. He enlisted on 27 January 1915; and subsequently, Returned to Australia 21 April 1918.

 

1245 Private William John HOGAN, a 19 year old Carter from Emmaville, New South Wales. He enlisted on 3 May 1915; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia 13 March 1919.

1246 Private Arnold Wentworth HORE, a 28 year old Grazier from Bowna, New South Wales. He enlisted on 8 June 1915; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia 23 March 1919.

1244 Private George Henry HUGHES, a 36 year old Horse breaker from Kyneton, Victoria. He enlisted on 6 May 1915; and subsequently, Returned to Australia 1 February 1918.
