HMAT A18 Wiltshire

 

The General Service Reinforcements, 1st GSR, New South Wales, embarked from Sydney, New South Wales, on board the HMAT A18 Wiltshire 10 June 1918.

The HMAT A18 Wiltshire weighed 10,390 tons with an average cruise speed of 13.5 knots or 25.00 kmph. It was owned by the Commonwealth & Dominion Line Ltd, London, and leased by the Commonwealth until 2 October 1917.

 

The ensuing individual soldier's embarkation information contains the following details:

Rank on embarkation;

Full name of the soldier

Declared age of the soldier;

The last occupation held;

The last address as a civilian;

Enlistment Date; and,

Fate.

50302 Private William Fuller BAIRD, an 18 year old N/R from Dubbo, New South Wales. He enlisted on 16 October 1915. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 7th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 27 June 1919.

50382 Private Sidney James BARHAM, a 24 year old N/R from Lithgow, New South Wales. He enlisted on 29 April 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 1st Light Horse Machine Gun Squadron; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 15 May 1919.

50301 Private Ryan BERNARD, a 28 year old N/R from N/R. He enlisted on 3 January 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 2nd Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 13 March 1919.

50300 Private Robert George BERTRAM, a 28 year old Grocer from Camperdown, New South Wales. He enlisted on 9 November 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 14th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 22 April 1919.

50303 Private John Stanislaus BRENNAN, an 18 year old N/R from Sydney, New South Wales. He enlisted on 21 January 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 1st Light Horse Machine Gun Squadron; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 29 April 1919.

 

50311 Private Michael James CLANCY, a 26 year old Tram conductor from Newtown, New South Wales. He enlisted on 25 January 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 12th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 20 July 1919.

50310 Private Arthur Albert COLLINS, a 19 year old N/R from Sydney, New South Wales. He enlisted on 31 January 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 1st Light Horse Machine Gun Squadron; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 29 April 1919.

50308 Private Harold Edgar CONLIN, a 22 year old N/R from Maitland, New South Wales. He enlisted on 3 February 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 1st Light Horse Field Squadron Engineers; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 3 July 1919.

50304 Private Henry Martin COSGROVE, a 19 year old N/R from North Sydney, New South Wales. He enlisted on 14 February 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 12th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 16 March 1919.

50307 Private Stanley COWAN, a 19 year old N/R from Newcastle, New South Wales. He enlisted on 20 January 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 12th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 22 July 1919.

50309 Private Cyril William CUMMINS, a 21 year old Blacksmith from Maitland, New South Wales. He enlisted on 23 January 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 2nd Light Horse Field Squadron Engineers; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 20 July 1919.

50296 Corporal Peter CUNNINGHAM, a 38 year old Station Manager from Rosehill, New South Wales. He enlisted on 16 October 1914. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 7th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 27 June 1919.

 

50312 Private Jock Thompson DONALDSON, a 28 year old Builder from Richmond, New South Wales. He enlisted on 28 January 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 2nd Light Horse Field Squadron Engineers; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 17 July 1919.

 

50305 Private Archibald Leslie FARLEY, a 37 year old Oysterman from Newcastle, New South Wales. He enlisted on 18 November 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 14th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 24 July 1919.

50315 Private Roy Durrell FISHER, a 22 year old N/R from Sydney, New South Wales. He enlisted on 4 January 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 14th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 20 July 1919.

50383 Private Gladstone FLINT, a 19 year old Labourer from Sunnyside via, New South Wales. He enlisted on 13 April 1915. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 1st Light Horse Field Ambulance; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 13 March 1919.

50313 Private George FRASA, a 24 year old Farmer from Kogarah, New South Wales. He enlisted on 28 February 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 14th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 20 July 1919.

50314 Private Leslie FREW, a 21 year old N/R from Orange, New South Wales. He enlisted on 21 November 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 1st Light Horse Field Squadron Engineers; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 3 July 1919.

50316 Private William Charles FREW, an 18 year old N/R from Sydney, New South Wales. He enlisted on 12 February 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 12th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 20 July 1919.

 

50321 Private Ross Percival GALL, a 20 year old N/R from Sydney, New South Wales. He enlisted on 4 February 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 12th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 29 April 1919.

50319 Private William George GIBBS, a 20 year old N/R from Singleton, New South Wales. He enlisted on 21 January 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 1st Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 13 March 1919.

50320 Private Thomas Percy GLEESON, a 21 year old N/R from Kempsey, New South Wales. He enlisted on 1 February 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 12th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 26 July 1919.

50317 Private George William GRAY, a 36 year old N/R from Sydney, New South Wales. He enlisted on 5 November 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 7th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 10 April 1919.

50318 Private Albert Thomas GRICE, a 33 year old N/R from Sydney, New South Wales. He enlisted on 22 January 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 7th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 27 June 1919.

 

50322 Private Stanley Thomas HAWKINS, an 18 year old N/R from Mudgee, New South Wales. He enlisted on 19 August 1917. 50324 Private Patrick August HEFFERNAN, a 28 year old N/R from Bega, New South Wales. He enlisted on 13 November 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 12th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 20 July 1919.

50327 Private Thomas HENDERSON, a 19 year old N/R from Cowra, New South Wales. He enlisted on 28 January 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 14th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 24 July 1919.

50385 Private Henry Ernest HEWITT, a 29 year old N/R from Sydney, New South Wales. He enlisted on 3 April 1918. 50384 Private Henry Ernest HOWELL, a 19 year old N/R from Bega, New South Wales. He enlisted on 27 April 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 12th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 20 July 1919.

 

50331 Private Harry JEWELL, a 28 year old Station hand from Randwick, New South Wales. He enlisted on 6 February 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 14th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 24 July 1919.

50375 Private Roy Aldous JONAS, a 21 year old Dental Mechanic from Randwick, New South Wales. He enlisted on 21 January 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the Australian Dental Corps; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 20 July 1919.

50329 Private Albert Lindon JONES, a 28 year old N/R from Newton, New South Wales. He enlisted on 27 September 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 7th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 27 June 1919.

50330 Private Ebenezer Roy JONES, a 19 year old N/R from Tamworth, New South Wales. He enlisted on 21 November 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 1st Light Horse Machine Gun Squadron; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 21 January 1919.

 

50332 Private Edward William Joseph KELLAHAN, a 21 year old Brick maker from Wellington, New South Wales. He enlisted on 15 February 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 14th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 24 July 1919.

 

50895 CQMS John George LANGMAID, a 28 year old Accountant from Moore Park, New South Wales. He enlisted on 5 June 1915. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 30th Infantry Battalion; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 28 March 1919.

50333 Private James LOCK, a 29 year old Labourer from Richmond, New South Wales. He enlisted on 7 May 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 12th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Discharged 30 January 1919.

50334 Private Harold LUCAS, a 21 year old Farmer from Wagga, New South Wales. He enlisted on 2 December 1917. 50372 Private Walter Scott MacLEAN, a 19 year old Bank Clerk from Lindfield, New South Wales. He enlisted on 30 January 1918. 50346 Private Sverre MATHISEN, a 27 year old Farm hand from Wollongong, New South Wales. He enlisted on 25 February 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 14th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 16 January 1919.

50343 Private William Class McALPIN, a 26 year old Farmer from Glen Alpin via Singleton, New South Wales. He enlisted on 21 January 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 1st Light Horse Machine Gun Squadron; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 16 May 1919.

50345 Private Giles Dolphin McCOLL, a 21 year old Grazier from Goulburn, New South Wales. He enlisted on 24 November 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 14th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 24 July 1919.

50344 Private Malcolm Frederick McKERRELL, a 25 year old Farmer from Chatsbury via Goulburn, New South Wales. He enlisted on 5 February 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 1st Light Horse Machine Gun Squadron; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 16 May 1919.

50338 Private Ralph Douglas McKNIGHT, a 21 year old Assayer from Bondi, New South Wales. He enlisted on 23 September 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 12th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 20 July 1919.

50339 Private Ernest Phillip McPHEE, a 30 year old Bank officer from Orange, New South Wales. He enlisted on 7 September 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 1st Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 13 March 1919.

50341 Private Cecil William James MILLS, a 35 year old Insurance agent from Roseville, New South Wales. He enlisted on 19 November 1916. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 12th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 24 July 1919.

50347 Private Phillip Charles MORRIS, a 20 year old Orchardist from Orange, New South Wales. He enlisted on 15 October 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 1st Light Horse Machine Gun Squadron; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 15 May 1919.

50373 Private Herbert Reginald MORRISON, a 20 year old Loco fireman from Maitland, New South Wales. He enlisted on 26 February 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 12th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 20 July 1919.

50340 Private Arthur Edward MULLER, an 18 year old Clerk from North Sydney, New South Wales. He enlisted on 5 August 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 7th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 28 June 1919.

 

50298 Private Robert Langley NEWELL, a 25 year old Stockman from Sydney, New South Wales. He enlisted on 22 February 1915. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 5th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 18 February 1919.

50377 Private Dennis James NOONAN, a 21 year old Farm Labourer from Kyogle, New South Wales. He enlisted on 12 February 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 4th Light Horse Machine Gun Squadron; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 24 July 1919.

 

50348 Private Robert John OATES-LENNOX, a 25 year old Station hand / Machinist from Darlinghurst, New South Wales. He enlisted on 6 February 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 7th Light Horse Regiment; and subsequently Returned to Australia 28 June 1918.

 

50351 Private Alexander PAKES, a 39 year old Greengrocer from Mascot, New South Wales. He enlisted on 28 January 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 2nd Light Horse Machine Gun Squadron; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 27 June 1919.

50353 Private Samuel David PATTERSON, a 21 year old Labourer from Moree, New South Wales. He enlisted on 10 January 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 12th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 20 July 1919.

50352 Private William Henry PHILLIPS, a 22 year old N/R from Sydney, New South Wales. He enlisted on 3 February 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the Australian Army Supply Corps, Australian Mounted Division Train; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 13 July 1919.

50350 Private Frederick George PHILPS, an 18 year old Clerk from North Sydney, New South Wales. He enlisted on 18 December 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 7th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 6 July 1919.

50297 Acting Sergeant Basil PRESTON, a 27 year old Fruit grower from Armidale, New South Wales. He enlisted on 30 August 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 1 Sqn Australian Flying Corps; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 4 March 1919.

50349 Private Harold PRICE, an 18 year old Farmer from Redfern, New South Wales. He enlisted on 28 February 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 1st Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 13 March 1919.

50299 Private Cecil Thomas PROCTOR, a 22 year old Horse driver from Newtown, New South Wales. He enlisted on 26 June 1917. 50357 Private Frank ROYSTON, a 23 year old Labourer from Leichhardt, New South Wales. He enlisted on 12 February 1918. 50366 Private John Thomas WATKIN, an 18 year old Teacher from South Grafton, New South Wales. He enlisted on 16 November 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 1st Light Horse Machine Gun Squadron; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 15 May 1919.

50369 Private Horace George WATKINSON, a 19 year old Clerk from Balmain, New South Wales. He enlisted on 9 January 1918.
