SS Malta 

 

The General Service Reinforcements, 6th GSR, Queensland, embarked from Sydney, New South Wales, on board the SS Malta 16 October 1918.

The SS Malta weighed 6,064 tons with an average cruise speed of 18 knots or 33.33 kmph. It was owned by the P & O SN Co, London.  

The ensuing individual soldier's embarkation information contains the following details:

Rank on embarkation;

Full name of the soldier

Declared age of the soldier;

The last occupation held;

The last address as a civilian;

Enlistment Date; and,

Fate.

64307 Private Matthew James ARMITT, an 18 year old Farmer from Lismore, New South Wales. He enlisted on 31 July 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 11th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 20 July 1919.

 

64308 Private William Leslie BAGULEY, a 20 year old Drover from Warwick, Queensland. He enlisted on 1 June 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 11th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 22 July 1919.

64309 Private Alfred Edward BARRACLOUGH, a 20 year old Carter from Nundah, Queensland. He enlisted on 26 August 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 11th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 20 July 1919.

64320 Private John Richard BELL, a 29 year old Labourer from Lismore, New South Wales. He enlisted on 1 July 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 11th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 20 July 1919.

64317 Private Richard Henry BELLINGHAM, a 23 year old Farmer from Dalby, Queensland. He enlisted on 3 July 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 2nd Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 14 March 1919.

64314 Private Bertie Carl BEUTEL, a 21 year old Labourer from Brisbane, Queensland. He enlisted on 10 June 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 1st Light Horse Signal Squadron; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 13 March 1919.

64327 Private Kenneth Royan BIGNELL, an 18 year old Farmer from Charleville, Queensland. He enlisted on 29 May 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 11th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 20 July 1919.

64324 Private Frederick John Henry BLANK, a 19 year old Labourer from West End, Brisbane, Queensland. He enlisted on 12 August 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 2nd Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 13 March 1919.

64321 Private Martin BLYTH, a 24 year old Stockman from Murgon, Queensland. He enlisted on 19 August 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 37th Company Australian Army Supply Corps Australian Mounted Division Train; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 26 July 1919.

64412 Private Kennedy Cassillis BOGLE, a 19 year old Farmer from Dalby, Queensland. He enlisted on 12 July 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 2nd Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 13 March 1919.

64325 Private Harry BOOL, a 20 year old Farmer from Dalby, Queensland. He enlisted on 10 May 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 5th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 27 June 1919.

64326 Private Stuart Leslie BOWERS, an 18 year old Farmer from Brisbane, Queensland. He enlisted on 19 April 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 2nd Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 29 April 1919.

64310 Private Frank Gilbert Henry BRADY, a 19 year old Farm labourer from Cooroy, Queensland. He enlisted on 5 August 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 2nd Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 13 March 1919.

64311 Private William BRAZEL, a 34 year old Labourer from Longreach, Queensland. He enlisted on 29 July 1918. 64313 Private Leslie BRODIE, an 18 year old Fruiter from Darby, Queensland. He enlisted on 18 April 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 11th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 20 July 1919.

54300 Private Arthur James Samuel BROOKS, a 21 year old Labourer from Cobbitty, New South Wales. He enlisted on 25 April 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the Not Taken On Strength; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 23 September 1918.

64312 Private Charles BROWN, a 23 year old Labourer from Toowoomba, Queensland. He enlisted on 29 July 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the Australian Army Supply Corps Australian Mounted Division Train; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 17 July 1919.

64322 Private James BRYCE, an 18 year old Clerk from Ipswich, Queensland. He enlisted on 4 March 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 5th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 28 June 1919.

64318 Private George Merland BURKE, a 19 year old Farmer from Gayndah, Queensland. He enlisted on 3 July 1918. 64405 Private Alexander John CHAPMAN, a 19 year old Farmer from Bundaberg, Queensland. He enlisted on 30 July 1918. After enlistment, he was allotted to the 7th GSR where he remained; and at the conclusion of the war Discharged, 27 December 1918.

64330 Sergeant Francis Bruce CHARLTON, a 20 year old Clerk from Brisbane, Queensland. He enlisted on 19 June 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the Not Taken On Strength; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 26 July 1919.

64329 Private James Ernest CLARK, a 21 year old Labourer from Dalby, Queensland. He enlisted on 23 June 1918. 64333 Private Percy Vivian DAHL, a 19 year old Grazier from Miriam Vale, Queensland. He enlisted on 30 July 1918. 64336 Private William Rodney DRANEY, a 19 year old Assistant Mechanic from Dalby, Queensland. He enlisted on 14 August 1918. 64341 Private Alfred Sydney Douglas James Priestley ELDRIDGE, a 19 year old Assistant Steward from Warwick, Queensland. He enlisted on 2 June 1918. 64375 Acting Corporal William Berryman PRINGLE, a 31 year old Steward from Red Hill, Queensland. He enlisted on 7 May 1918.
