9th Australian Light Horse Regiment

9th Australian Light Horse Regiment, AIF, 8th Reinforcement Kyarra Group, embarked from Melbourne, Victoria on board HMAT A55 Kyarra 20 August 1915.
The HMAT A55 Kyarra weighed 6,953 tons with an average cruise speed of 14 knots or 25.92 kmph. It was owned by the AUSN Co Ltd, London, and manned by Australia officers and crew. The Kyarra was leased by the Commonwealth until 4 January 1918. The Kyarra was torpedoed and sunk by a submarine in the English Channel, 26 May 1918.

1085 Private Thomas Scott BERWICK, a 27 year old Butcher from Mornington, Victoria. He enlisted on 15 June 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 28 March 1919.
1071 Private William BROWNEY, a 27 year old Labourer from Korumburra, Victoria. He enlisted on 7 January 1915; and subsequently was Killed in Action, 28 July 1917.
1081 Private William John GILLETT, a 38 year old Bricklayer from Camberwell, Victoria. He enlisted on 29 March 1915; enlisted in the 13th Light Horse Regiment, 3rd Reinforcement, stowed away on the Kyarra and enrolled in 9th Light Horse Regiment, 8th Reinforcement but at Fremantle he Deserted, 26 August 1915.
1088 Private William Ira GRENFELL, a 27 year old Battery Feeder from Long Gully, Victoria. He enlisted on 20 January 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 21 November 1916.
1074 Private George JONES, an 18 year old Motor Mechanic from Rushworth, Victoria. He enlisted on 21 June 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 6 May 1919.
1082 Private William KENNEDY, a 40 year old Labourer from Beechworth, Victoria. He enlisted on 9 December 1914; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 20 March 1917.
1083 Private James Marquis LEWIS, a 21 year old Labourer from Wallan, Victoria. He enlisted on 11 December 1914; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 4 November 1915.
1090 Private Alexander McLELLAN, a 35 year old Commission Agent from Essendon, Victoria. He enlisted on 30 December 1914; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 3 September 1919.
1077 Private Leslie John McLEOD, an 18 year old Clerk from Yarra Glen, Victoria. He enlisted on 1 July 1915; and subsequently Died of Disease, 29 August 1915.

1086 Private Leslie Alfred PASSMORE, a 23 year old Labourer from Tocumwal, Victoria. He enlisted on 31 December 1914; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 10 July 1919.
