0300 Bombs and general attack to divert fire from Quinn's Post which was retaken but lost again owing to cross machine gun fire after daylight. One man Campland, Machine Gunner, was killed with shrapnel in our trenches. Very hot fire was drawn.
Carew Reynell Diary - this is the second day we have revelled in a complete loaf in this pretty little glen by the sea. The trenches are only a thousand yards or so from the beach up on top of the high cliffs behind us so of course we hear all that goes on. Last night we had an open air concert and from where I sat I could see a glorious sunset over an island just to the north of Imbros. The concert was very good - it was rather quaint to see a half bearded ruffian stand up and sing a sentimental song to a lot of other dishevelled ruffians, with a lively obbligato of musketry from above. We have a lot of very fine voices. church parade this morning. Have just delivered a very serious and fatherly talk to the officers. Poor devils are an incompetent lot but we must aim at the impossible, good officers with little training, or else we shan't get anywhere.
