The following is a transcription of the 1st Light Horse Brigade, War Diary Account from the War Diary of the 1st Light Horse Brigade, about their role at the Battle of Rafa, Sinai, 9 January 1917.
El Arish 8 January 1917
Brigade moved out with Mounted Troops of Desert Column at 1600 to participate in the raid on Rafa.
Arrived Sheikh Zowaiid 2130.
Rafa 9 January 1917
Left Sheikh Zowaiid at 0100 for Rafa.
Raid on Rafa position successfully carried out.
Left scene of operations at 2150.
El Arish 10 January 1917
Arrived Sheikh Zowaiid at 0130, watered horses and bivouacked from 0230 to 0530.
Left Sheikh Zowaiid at 0710 with Anzac Mounted Division for El Arish. Returned to camp 1215.
