Embarkation Roll, 5th Reinforcement

 

HMAT A69 Warilda

 

4th Light Horse Field Ambulance, AIF, 5th Reinforcement, embarked Brisbane, Queensland on board HMAT A69 Warilda 5 October 1915.

The HMAT A69 Warilda weighed 7,713 tons with an average cruise speed of 16 knots or 29.63 kmph. It was owned by the Adelaide SS Co Ltd, Adelaide, and manned by Australian officers and mainly by Australian crews. The Warilda was torpedoed and sunk by a submarine in the English Channel, 3 August 1918.

The ensuing individual soldier's embarkation information contains the following details:

Rank on embarkation;

Full name of the soldier

Declared age of the soldier;

The last occupation held;

The last address as a civilian;

Enlistment Date; and,

Fate.

Embarkation Roll

 

1718 Driver William George CROSBIE, a 21 year old Clerk from North Pine, Queensland. He enlisted on 23 June 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 12 November 1917.

 

1719 Private Cecil John GARDNER, a 22 year old Draughtsman from Theebine, Queensland. He enlisted on 17 June 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Discharged in Britain, 26 December 1919.

 

1720 Private John Smith HANZELL, a 40 year old Farmer from Stanthorpe, Queensland. He enlisted on 2 July 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 25 August 1917.
