1st Australian Light Horse Regiment, AIF, 5th Reinforcements, embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board HMAT A41 Bakara 22 May 1915.

The HMAT A41 Bakara weighed 5,930 tons with an average cruise speed of 10.5 knots or 19.44 kmph. The Bakara was previously a captured German vessel called Constaff. It was manned by Australia officers and crew and transferred to Commonwealth Government Line, 1 May 1918.

The ensuing individual soldier's embarkation information contains the following details:

Rank on embarkation;

Full name of the soldier

Declared age of the soldier;

The last occupation held;

The last address as a civilian;

Enlistment Date; and,

Fate.

926 Private John Frederick William ASHTON, a 19 year old Deck hand from Leichhardt, New South Wales. He enlisted on 7 January 1915; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 13 March 1919.

927 Private Herbert Sydney Charles ATKINSON, a 31 year old Farmer from Brooklyn, New South Wales. He enlisted on 7 January 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 21 January 1916.

 

986 Private Richard BEASLEY, a 36 year old Labourer Painter from Coolamon, New South Wales. He enlisted on 24 November 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 12 November 1917.

931 Private Arthur Patrick BENNETT, a 23 year old Station hand from Randwick, New South Wales. He enlisted on 8 January 1915; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 15 June 1919.

928 Private William Keith BLACK, a 22 year old Clerk from Hornsby, New South Wales. He enlisted on 8 January 1915; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 13 March 1919.

932 Private Ernest James BROWN, a 35 year old Carter from Waverley, New South Wales. He enlisted on 6 January 1915; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 8 April 1919.

930 Private George Henry BROWN, a 34 year old Hotel manager from Sydney, New South Wales. He enlisted on 6 January 1915; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 15 May 1919.

 

936 Corporal Erroll Douglas CAMPBELL, a 22 year old Drover from Paddington, New South Wales. He enlisted on 6 January 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 24 June 1916.

984 Private Rupert Henry K. CLARK, a 21 year old Traveller from Mosman, New South Wales. He enlisted on 15 May 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 29 August 1915.

938 Private Lloyd Alexander CORLISS, a 20 year old Labourer from Milroy via Curlewis, New South Wales. He enlisted on 5 January 1915; and subsequently Died of Wounds, 17 November 1917.

937 Private Walter Herbert COURTMAN, a 24 year old Postal worker from Katoomba, New South Wales. He enlisted on 4 January 1915; and subsequently was Killed in Action, 3 August 1916.

939 Private William COX, a 26 year old Boundary rider from Henty, New South Wales. He enlisted on 4 January 1915; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 2 January 1919.

935 Private John Andrew CUNEO, a 22 year old Butcher from Hunters Hill, New South Wales. He enlisted on 27 January 1915; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 23 July 1919.

 

940 Private Thomas Vincent FAY, a 24 year old Station hand from Somerton, New South Wales. He enlisted on 7 January 1914; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 7 April 1919.

941 Private Cecil FERRIS, a 20 year old Labourer from Unarderra, New South Wales. He enlisted on 4 January 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 15 November 1918.

979 Sergeant Cyrus Spencer FROST, a 33 year old Auctioneer from Parramatta, New South Wales. He enlisted on 11 March 1915; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 13 March 1919.

 

974 Signaller Frederick Cecil HAWLEY, a 24 year old Traveller from Sydney, New South Wales. He enlisted on 23 March 1915; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 4 March 1919.

980 Corporal Oswald Norman HAYES, a 25 year old Wool classer from Caravon, New South Wales. He enlisted on 11 March 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 23 December 1918.

942 Private John Charles HILLIER, a 22 year old Labourer from Armidale, New South Wales. He enlisted on 6 January 1915; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 13 March 1919.

 

982 Private Harry Allan JACOB, a 22 year old Grazier from Homebush, New South Wales. He enlisted on 5 March 1915; and subsequently Died of Accident, 9 November 1918.

945 Private Charles Percy JOHNSON, a 24 year old Stockman from Condobolin, New South Wales. He enlisted on 6 January 1915; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 16 January 1919.

944 Private James Bernard JOHNSON, a 29 year old Station hand from Condobolin, New South Wales. He enlisted on 12 January 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 31 December 1915.

946 Private Sydney Ellis Clare JOHNSON, a 26 year old Labourer from Little Plain, New South Wales. He enlisted on 5 January 1915; and subsequently was Killed in Action, 3 November 1917.

947 Private Richard Edward JOHNSTON, a 24 year old Carter from Moree, New South Wales. He enlisted on 3 November 1914; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 31 March 1919.

962 Private John Charles Harold SKINNER, a 21 year old Plumber from Lidcombe, New South Wales. He enlisted on 7 January 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 28 January 1916.

The HMAT A21 Marere weighed 6,443 tons with an average cruise speed of 12.5 knots or 23.15 kmph. It was owned by the Commonwealth & Dominion Line Ltd, London. The Marere was sunk by a submarine's gunfire in the Mediterranean, 18 January 1916.

1st Australian Light Horse Regiment, AIF, 9th Reinforcements, embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board HMAT A8 Argyllshire 30 September 1915.

The HMAT A8 Argyllshire weighed 10,392 tons with an average cruise speed of 14 knots or 25.92 kmph. It was owned by the Scottish Shire Line Ltd, London, and leased by the Commonwealth until 24 January 1918.
