HMAT A18 Wiltshire

 

The General Service Reinforcements, 3rd GSR, Western Australia, embarked from Sydney, New South Wales, on board the HMAT A18 Wiltshire 10 June 1918.

The HMAT A18 Wiltshire weighed 10,390 tons with an average cruise speed of 13.5 knots or 25.00 kmph. It was owned by the Commonwealth & Dominion Line Ltd, London, and leased by the Commonwealth until 2 October 1917.

The ensuing individual soldier's embarkation information contains the following details:

Rank on embarkation;

Full name of the soldier

Declared age of the soldier;

The last occupation held;

The last address as a civilian;

Enlistment Date; and,

Fate.

57191 Private George Hayward CLIFTON, an 18 year old Farmer from Bunbury, Western Australia. He enlisted on 17 November 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 10th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 10 July 1919.

 

57200 Private John Henry DENNIS, an 18 year old Farmer from Perth, Western Australia. He enlisted on 14 March 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 10th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 17 July 1919.

 

57195 Private William Edgar GILLVOYTE, a 22 year old Farm Hand from Perth, Western Australia. He enlisted on 4 January 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 10th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 10 July 1919.

 

57193 Private Albert HOPKINS, a 39 year old Secretary from Perth, Western Australia. He enlisted on 1 November 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 10th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 10 July 1919.

 

57194 Private Edward JOHNSON, a 21 year old Farmer from Beverley, Western Australia. He enlisted on 13 May 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 10th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 10 July 1919.

 

57192 Private Noel Raphael ROBERTSON, an 18 year old Station hand from South Perth, Western Australia. He enlisted on 24 April 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 10th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 10 July 1919.

57196 Private William Francis ROPER, a 19 year old Farmer from Katanning, Western Australia. He enlisted on 15 March 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 10th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 10 July 1919.

57197 Private George Stephen RUTTER, a 30 year old Engineer fitter from Kalgoorlie, Western Australia. He enlisted on 2 April 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 10th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 1 January 1919.

 

57198 Private John TACHON, a 32 year old Farmer from Osborne Park, Western Australia. He enlisted on 13 May 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 4th Light Horse Machine Gun Squadron; and subsequently Died of Disease 22 October 1918.

57199 Private Roderick THOMPSON, a 21 year old Teamster from East Perth, Western Australia. He enlisted on 4 April 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 4th Light Horse Machine Gun Squadron; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 24 July 1919.

 

57201 Private William WAREING, a 37 year old Orchardist from Bridgetown, Western Australia. He enlisted on 1 February 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 10th Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 10 July 1919.

57202 Private George Henry WOOD, a 19 year old Ironmonger from Geraldton, Western Australia. He enlisted on 10 April 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 3rd Light Horse Machine Gun Squadron; and subsequently Returned to Australia 23 December 1918.

57553 Private Thomas BRYCE, a 19 year old Farm labourer from Hobart, Tasmania. He enlisted on 15 March 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 3rd Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 15 May 1919.

52255 Private Neil McKay BURBURY, a 21 year old Pastoralist from Jericho, Tasmania. He enlisted on 21 February 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 40th Battalion; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 23 September 1919.

63358 Private John Louis BURKE, an 18 year old Gas fitter from Hobart, Tasmania. He enlisted on 28 May 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the Not Taken On Strength; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 25 January 1919.

63230 Acting Corporal Benjamin Roe BUTLER, a 20 year old Farmer from Windsor Park, Tasmania. He enlisted on 26 June 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the Not Taken On Strength; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 18 December 1919.

 

63253 Private Ronslie Russell COLLINS, an 18 year old Labourer from Launceston, Tasmania. He enlisted on 5 March 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the Not Taken On Strength; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 19 August 1919.

 

57555 Private John William George EWINGTON, a 35 year old Labourer from Ulverstone, Tasmania. He enlisted on 15 May 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 3rd Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 5 March 1919.

 

57556 Private Frederick Fleming HENDERSON, a 31 year old Labourer from Claremont, Tasmania. He enlisted on 6 April 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 3rd Light Horse Regiment; and subsequently was Discharged in Britain 4 September 1919.

57557 Private Herbert Percy HYNES, a 43 year old Policeman from Burnie, Tasmania. He enlisted on 1 May 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 3rd Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 10 April 1919.

 

57558 Private Wilfred John RADFORD, an 18 year old Farmer from Kingston, Tasmania. He enlisted on 5 April 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 3rd Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 17 July 1919.

57551 Private George Morris RAPP, a 37 year old Clerk from Hobart, Tasmania. He enlisted on 16 November 1917. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 3rd Light Horse Regiment; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia 19 January 1919.

56918 Private Walter James LEWIS, a 19 year old Stud groom from Brisbane, Queensland. He enlisted on 6 April 1918. After embarkation and arrival in Egypt where he underwent additional training, he was allotted to the 11th Light Horse Regiment; and subsequently was Killed in Action 25 September 1918.

56921 Private Kevin Sarsfield O'SULLIVAN, a 23 year old Article Surveyor from Charters Towers, Queensland. He enlisted on 21 May 1918. 56925 Private Charles Albert ROGERS, a 21 year old Farm labourer from Pomona, Queensland. He enlisted on 4 May 1918. The General Service Reinforcements, 3rd GSR, South Australia, embarked from Sydney, New South Wales, on board the HMAT A18 Wiltshire 10 June 1918.

The HMAT A18 Wiltshire weighed 10,390 tons with an average cruise speed of 13.5 knots or 25.00 kmph. It was owned by the Commonwealth & Dominion Line Ltd, London, and leased by the Commonwealth until 2 October 1917.
