HMAT A7 Medic

 

11th Australian Light Horse Regiment, AIF, 1st Reinforcements Medic Group, embarked from Brisbane, Queensland on board HMAT A7 Medic 2 June 1915.

The HMAT A7 Medic weighed 12,032 tons with an average cruise speed of 13 knots or 24.07 kmph. It was owned by the Oceanic SN Co Ltd, Liverpool, and leased by the Commonwealth until 26 October 1917. The Medic was well known by the Australian forces as it was a key troopship for Australia during the Boer War, some 14 years before the re-engagement.

The ensuing individual soldier's embarkation information contains the following details:

Full name of the soldier

Declared age of the soldier;

The last occupation held;

The last address as a civilian;

Enlistment Date; and,

Fate.

755 Private Keith Robinson BRACKEN, a 19 year old Farmer from Kogan Warra, Queensland. He enlisted on 6 January 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 22 January 1917.

756 Private Alexander Charles BUTCHER, a 21 year old Labourer from Murwillumbah, New South Wales. He enlisted on 6 January 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 12 July 1918.

 

759 Private Arthur Wilson CURRY, a 35 year old Surveyor from South Brisbane, Queensland. He enlisted on 19 February 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 1 February 1918.

 

761 Private John James DEMPSEY, a 26 year old Horse breaker from Toowoomba, Queensland. He enlisted on 6 January 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 6 January 1919.

 

764 T/QMS Richard Alderson FROST, a 26 year old Clerk from Toowoomba, Queensland. He enlisted on 23 March 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 26 July 1919.

765 Private Percy Charles FULLOON, a 24 year old Labourer from Bell, Queensland. He enlisted on 4 January 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 23 March 1919.

 

766 Private Duncan McLeod GRAYSON, a 27 year old Labourer from Warwick, Queensland. He enlisted on 7 April 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 30 August 1918.

 

767 Private John Edgar HAMILTON, a 22 year old Surveyor from Toowoomba, Queensland. He enlisted on 11 February 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 15 November 1918.

768 Private Harry HURLEY, a 29 year old Labourer from Charters Towers, Queensland. He enlisted on 29 December 1914; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 9 July 1919.

 

771 Private Francis Edward KELLY, a 35 year old Saddler from Bundaberg, Queensland. He enlisted on 18 March 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 24 July 1919.

533 Private Amos KENNEDAY, a 24 year old Labourer from Islington, South Australia. He enlisted on 9 June 1915; and subsequently Deserted, 2 June 1916.

 

772 Private Alexander LAMB, a 25 year old Labourer from Ascot Vale, Victoria. He enlisted on 11 January 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 12 July 1918.

779 Private Alexander Stuart McGREGOR, a 35 year old Labourer from Albion, Queensland. He enlisted on 6 January 1915; and subsequently Died of Disease, 14 April 1917.

782 Private Charles Clement Neil McKENNY, a 30 year old Grazier from Redcliffe, Queensland. He enlisted on 10 February 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 8 September 1919.

The information on this site is freely available for private research use only and if used as such, should be appropriately acknowledged.
