HMAT A42 Boorara 

 

2nd Australian Light Horse Regiment, AIF, 23rd Reinforcements, embarked from Melbourne, Victoria on board HMAT A42 Boorara 10 May 1917.

The HMAT A42 Boorara weighed 5,923 tons with an average cruise speed of 10.5 knots or 19.44 kmph. The Boorara was previously a captured German vessel called Pfalz. It was manned by Australia officers and crew and transferred to Commonwealth Government Line, 24 June 1919.

The ensuing individual soldier's embarkation information contains the following details:

Rank on embarkation;

Full name of the soldier;

Declared age of the soldier;

The last occupation held;

The last address as a civilian;

Enlistment Date; and,

Fate.

3061 Private Vance Venor DULHUNTY, a 30 year old Drover from Sandgate, Queensland. He enlisted on 24 November 1916; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 13 March 1919.

 

3058 Private Wallace Stanley FERGUS, an 18 year old Labourer from Oakey, Queensland. He enlisted on 28 September 1916; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 13 March 1919.

2nd Australian Light Horse Regiment, AIF, 24th Reinforcements, embarked from Brisbane, Queensland on board HMAT A1 Hymettus 3 February 1917.

The HMAT A1 Hymettus weighed 4,606 tons with an average cruise speed of 11.5 knots or 21.3 kmph. It was owned by the British India SN Co Ltd, London, and leased by the Commonwealth until 15 May 1917.

3302 Private William George MUGGLETON, a 42 year old Contractor from Mackay, Queensland. He enlisted on 16 January 1917; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 12 November 1917.

3315 Private Lionel MUTIMER, a 23 year old Labourer from Maryborough, Queensland. He enlisted on 26 January 1917; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 4 March 1919.

 

3296 Private Percival Charles NEATE, a 30 year old Engine driver from Esk, Queensland. He enlisted on 19 January 1917; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 13 March 1919.

 

3287 Acting Corporal Tom Alexander OGG, a 27 year old Grazier from Townsville, Queensland. He enlisted on 23 June 1916; and subsequently was Killed in Action, 14 July 1918.

3306 Private Richard Lawrence O'SULLIVAN, a 44 year old Horse breaker from Eidsvold, Queensland. He enlisted on 27 November 1916; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 3 August 1918.

 

3310 Private Stanley Albert REEVE, an 18 year old Farmer from Commissioners Creek, New South Wales. He enlisted on 9 February 1917; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 13 March 1919.

3309 Private Harry ROZEE, a 26 year old Labourer from Paddington, Queensland. He enlisted on 5 February 1917; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 10 July 1919.

 

3312 Private Thomas Albert SCOTT, a 19 year old Carter from West Toowoomba, Queensland. He enlisted on 8 January 1917; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 8 April 1919.

3313 Private William SHEEDY, a 19 year old Labourer from South Brisbane, Queensland. He enlisted on 30 January 1917; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 13 March 1919.

3311 Private Bryden James SLOANE, a 21 year old Stockman from Forsayth, Queensland. He enlisted on 13 January 1917; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 13 March 1919.

3327 Private Robert Campbell SMITH, a 44 year old Carter from West End, Queensland. He enlisted on 8 February 1917; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 12 November 1917.

Lieutenant Arthur Peter STRUSS, a 25 year old Farmer from Glen Eagle, Queensland. He enlisted on 9 March 1917; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 11 July 1917.

 

3316 Private John Richard TAYLOR, a 21 year old Farm hand from Pittsworth, Queensland. He enlisted on 15 January 1917; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 1 July 1919.

3314 Private Charles Vincent THORPE, a 21 year old Labourer from Red Hill, Queensland. He enlisted on 9 January 1917; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 21 May 1917.

 

3319 Private Eric Woodward WEBER, a 19 year old Engine fitter from Charters Towers, Queensland. He enlisted on 22 August 1916; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 10 July 1919.

3318 Private Stanley Frederick WILSON, an 18 year old Miner from Newtown, Queensland. He enlisted on 10 January 1917; and at the conclusion of the war, Returned to Australia, 17 July 1919.
