RMS Mongolia

 

11th Australian Light Horse Regiment, AIF, 10th Reinforcements, embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board RMS Mongolia 8 July 1916.

The RMS Mongolia weighed 4,892 tons with an average cruise speed of 12 knots or 22.22 kmph. It was owned by the  Indian & Peninsular St. Nav Co Ltd Glasgow.  Torpedoed and sunk on 21 July 1918.

The ensuing individual soldier's embarkation information contains the following details:

Rank on embarkation;

Full name of the soldier

Declared age of the soldier;

The last occupation held;

The last address as a civilian;

Enlistment Date; and,

Fate.

1823 Private Thomas BLAKEWAY, a 39 year old Grazier from Bundaberg, Queensland. He enlisted on 4 February 1916; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 20 July 1919.

 

1826 Private Archibald Steer CAVILL, a 19 year old Labourer from Woodstock, Queensland. He enlisted on 12 February 1916; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 20 July 1919.

 

1827 Private Arvid Aloysius Valentine Vivian DANIELSON, a 19 year old Labourer from Mackay, Queensland. He enlisted on 7 March 1916; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 12 November 1917.

1828 Private Francis James DIXON, a 27 year old Teamster from Cairns, Queensland. He enlisted on 20 January 1916; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 20 July 1919.

 

1821 Acting Corporal Royce Arnold EVANS, a 21 year old Farmer from Beaudesert, Queensland. He enlisted on 7 March 1916; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 4 March 1919.

 

1829 Private William Norman FOWLES, a 21 year old Station manager from Grafton Station, Queensland. He enlisted on 18 February 1916; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 20 July 1919.

 

1830 Private William Arthur Hayden GARDNER, a 28 year old Bookkeeper from Indooroopilly, Queensland. He enlisted on 14 February 1916; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 5 March 1919.

1831 Private Robert Cairns GRAY, a 19 year old Butcher from Townsville, Queensland. He enlisted on 12 February 1916; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 29 January 1919.

1832 Private Oliver GUY, a 23 year old Labourer from Brisbane, Queensland. He enlisted on 2 February 1916; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 4 July 1919.

 

1834 Private Colin Fleming HALL, a 27 year old Overseer from Mosman, New South Wales. He enlisted on 4 February 1916; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 28 June 1919.

1833 Private Richard HUGHES, a 30 year old Farmer from Laidley, Queensland. He enlisted on 24 January 1916; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 17 July 1919.

 

1835 Private Frederick JIBSON, a 19 year old Labourer from St George, Queensland. He enlisted on 18 January 1916; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 9 July 1919.

 

1836 Private John Joseph Francis LINNAN, a 20 year old Farmer from Lake Clarendon, Queensland. He enlisted on 17 January 1916; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 13 March 1919.

2318 Private Norman Gilby LARKIN, a 19 year old Farmer from Atherton, Queensland. He enlisted on 16 December 1916; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 13 March 1919.

2319 Private William Leslie LEWIS, a 23 year old Drover from Augathella, Queensland. He enlisted on 11 November 1916; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 6 October 1919.

 

2307 Private Chris Sydney MANNING, a 21 year old Stockman from New Farm, Queensland. He enlisted on 18 April 1916; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 29 April 1919.

2326 Private James William Laidley Dorsey McMULLEN, a 24 year old Station hand from Bengalla, Queensland. He enlisted on 23 October 1916; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 12 July 1918.

2334 Private William Joseph SALMON, a 30 year old Butcher from Redhill, Queensland. He enlisted on 22 December 1916; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 20 July 1917.

2324 Private William SAUNDERS, a 23 year old Teamster from Jaggan, Queensland. He enlisted on 30 December 1916; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 26 July 1919.

2325 Private Charles Archie Hamilton SLATER, a 28 year old Labourer from Lawnton, Queensland. He enlisted on 6 January 1917; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 20 July 1919.

 

2355 Acting Sergeant John THORPE, a 32 year old Ware houseman from Coorparoo, Queensland. He enlisted on 26 July 1916; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 20 July 1919.

 

2329 Private Charles Oliver VAINS, a 30 year old Engine driver from Mt Molloy, Queensland. He enlisted on 28 October 1916; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 20 July 1919.

 

2330 Private Colin McKenzie WALLACE, a 28 year old Stockman from Warwick, Queensland. He enlisted on 20 November 1916; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 14 March 1919.
