HMAT A20 Hororata

 

13th Australian Light Horse Regiment, AIF, 4th Reinforcement, embarked from Melbourne, Victoria on board HMAT A20 Hororata 27 September 1915.

The HMAT A20 Hororata weighed 9,400 tons with an average cruise speed of 14 knots or 25.92 kmph. It was owned by the New Zealand Shipping Co Ltd, London, and leased by the Commonwealth until 11 September 1917.

The ensuing individual soldier's embarkation information contains the following details:

Rank on embarkation;

Full name of the soldier

Declared age of the soldier;

The last occupation held;

The last address as a civilian;

Enlistment Date; and,

Fate.

1044 Private Patrick BAHEN, a 25 year old Labourer from Melbourne, Victoria. He enlisted on 5 July 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 17 April 1920.

996 Private William Benjamin BARTLEY, a 21 year old Dealer from East Malvern, Victoria. He enlisted on 13 July 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 15 May 1919.

1024 Private Ellis BAX, a 20 year old Horse breaker Farmer from Swan Hill, Victoria Diamond Creek, Victoria. He enlisted on 1 April 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 16 June 1919.

999 Private Henry Grange BIGGS, an 18 year old Farmer from Coburg, Victoria. He enlisted on 15 July 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 1 August 1919.

998 Private Keith Frederick William BLACKSHAW, an 18 year old Farm Labourer from Dandenong, Victoria. He enlisted on 16 July 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 24 January 1919.

995 Private Thomas BONE, a 24 year old Saddler from Wonthaggi, Victoria. He enlisted on 21 July 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 9 February 1919.

997 Private William James BOX, a 30 year old Carpenter from Elliminyt, Victoria. He enlisted on 19 July 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 15 May 1919.

1041 Private William BUTLER, a 20 year old Labourer from East Malvern, Victoria. He enlisted on 24 September 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 9 December 1918.

 

1000 Corporal John CLASBY, a 23 year old Rail worker from South Yarra, Victoria. He enlisted on 18 June 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 4 May 1917.

1002 Private Ronald COOKE, a 23 year old Labourer from Warragul, Victoria. He enlisted on 15 July 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 15 May 1919.

1001 Private James COURTNEY, a 23 year old Groom from Melbourne, Victoria. He enlisted on 18 June 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 15 May 1919.

 

1004 Private Richard James ELLIS, a 19 year old Miner from Waterloo, Victoria. He enlisted on 19 July 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 13 February 1917.

 

1006 Private John William FITZSIMMONS, a 24 year old Farmer from Sebastopol, Victoria. He enlisted on 27 July 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 12 April 1919.

1179 Private Joseph NEWPORT, a 31 year old Labourer from Whittlesea, Victoria. He enlisted on 11 October 1915; and subsequently Died of Disease, 17 November 1915, and subsequently was buried at sea.

 

1180 Private Andrew PEEL, an 18 year old Labourer from Mystic Park, Victoria. He enlisted on 16 July 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 8 April 1919.

1181 Private Rex PLUNKETT, a 19 year old Farmer from Cavendish, Victoria. He enlisted on 20 July 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 30 April 1919.

1182 Private James POLLARD, a 21 year old Labourer from Glenorchy, Victoria. He enlisted on 20 July 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 18 December 1919.

1183 Private Valentine POWELL, a 27 year old Optician from West Brunswick, Victoria. He enlisted on 16 July 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 21 December 1917.

 

1185 Private Maurice Allan RICE, a 40 year old Miner from Gaffneys Creek, Victoria. He enlisted on 26 July 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 16 January 1918.

1184 Private Phillip Patrick RYAN, a 19 year old Engine driver from Warrnambool, Victoria. He enlisted on 27 July 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 8 April 1919.

 

1287 Private Geoffrey McKinnon SALMON, a 21 year old Butter packer from Leongatha, Victoria. He enlisted on 23 July 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 27 April 1919.

1186 Private Oswald STEWART, a 19 year old Clerk from Ascot Vale, Victoria. He enlisted on 3 July 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 8 April 1919.

 

1187 Private William Arthur TOURRIER, a 30 year old Farmer from Glenferrie, Victoria. He enlisted on 14 July 1915; and subsequently Died of Wounds, 9 October 1917.

1188 Private Benjamin TURNER, a 31 year old Farmer from South Pakenham, Victoria. He enlisted on 13 July 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 15 May 1919.

 

1190 Private John WALLACE, a 30 year old Labourer from South Yarra, Victoria. He enlisted on 19 July 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 1 November 1919.

1189 Private Ralph Thomas WALTER, a 25 year old Labourer from Noradjuha via Horsham, Victoria. He enlisted on 13 July 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 15 May 1919.

1193 Private Eric James WENSLEY, a 22 year old Labourer from Hamilton, Victoria. He enlisted on 17 July 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 29 May 1919.

1191 Private Richard Henry WILLIAMS, a 30 year old Labourer from South Melbourne, Victoria. He enlisted on 11 October 1915; and subsequently Returned to Australia, 12 May 1918.

1192 Private Carl Frederick WORTHY, a 23 year old Labourer from Tooan via Horsham, Victoria. He enlisted on 22 July 1915; and at the conclusion of the war Returned to Australia, 9 March 1919.
